Will wildlife do? The most plentiful unprotected (I think) wildlife in El Paso is the cockroach. Any design ideas on how to use the energies of those little critters to turn a generator? LOL

You are so right about the rain and cow patties... Ya the one-eyed pony would work great for that depending on the setup and load.

There are ways to leave home and still have animals. Want to milk a cow? Leave the calf on her and shut him up when you want the milk. Otherwise, let him nurse and no one needs to milk the cow (or goat). Feeding cattle - pasture them and they feed themselves. Winter? Put out hay in round bale feeders (even square bales will work - just fill it up) and they'll feed themselves. If you only have one or two, one feeder will feed them for a good week or longer. One 4X5 round bale should last one cow/steer about 3 weeks. We use these for our cattle/goats/horses. We've left home for a week at a time and the animals did fine while we were gone. We have ponds for them to get water. Going out and picking up dried cow manure would be a chore for every day if you were depending on it for your fire. And if it is raining and raining - you're not going to be getting any dried cow pies while that's going on. The rain busts it up and washes it into the ground. Good for the ground. :-) We want to know if a pony would work for generating elec. ?? We have a one-eyed pony who needs a job....he gets into trouble all of the time. LOL!
