Fox Guards the Henhouse in America’s Ongoing Food Fight

One of the great lies told by the media and those in power is that our political system actually provides voters with real choices. Conflict between the two political parties, or between the president and Congress, is portrayed as some kind of titanic struggle between competing ideologies with different visions for America.
And yet, mysteriously, as individual politicians come and go, and the balance of power constantly shifts back and forth between Democrats and Republicans, somehow nothing ever changes. Or more correctly, things just keep getting worse.
In reality, there is no mystery here at all. Inconvenient concepts like belief and principle have long since given way to the demands of power politics in the corporate age, where anything that serves the interests of big corporations and mega-banks is good, and anything else is just fodder for empty rhetoric meant to con chronically gullible voters into choosing one lying party over the other.
Of Puppets and Men
In the game of meaningless speech making and political chatter, one of the most persistent memes propagated by Democrats is that they are the party that always looks out for the interests of the little guy, protecting average people against unscrupulous companies and individuals who are looking to exploit them whenever there is a profit to be made. Once in office, however, Democrat politicians at all levels of government frequently favor the interests of corporations over those of the common man.
If you want to find the quintessential example of this phenomenon in action, look no further than the decision by President Obama to appoint a former vice president and chief lobbyist for a giant agricultural biotechnology corporation as his “food czar.” What this means it that a powerful agribusiness insider is the senior adviser to the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, which is allegedly responsible for policing the very industry that spawned the unelected position of “food czar” in the first place.
FDA Complicity in the Disaster of Genetically Modified Agriculture
Actually, this food czar is already quite familiar with the FDA.
In the 1990s, the FDA’s own scientists were recommending against approval of GM food-related products such as bovine growth hormone and genetically engineered seeds until extensive testing had been completed. But the FDA’s civilian policy makers, at the urging of big agriculture and the biotech industry, ignored the requests of their scientists and approved GM products for release on the market without any safety testing at all. And for all of you who may be anticipating where this is going, yes, your intuitions are correct – the chief civilian policy maker at the time this decision was made is the very same man who is now President Obama’s chief civilian policy maker on issues related to food in the current administration.
Since the disastrous decision to allow untested genetically engineered food and food-related products on the market, the health of the American people has been spiraling steadily downward. Over the past fifteen years, the number of people suffering from multiple chronic illnesses has doubled, while the number of people brought into emergency rooms for allergy-related reasons has skyrocketed. Rates of asthma, autism, obesity, diabetes, and digestive disorders have been exploding without any obvious explanation. While there is no direct proof that GM food-related products are responsible for any of this, the possibility of these kinds of problems occurring are exactly the sort of thing that the FDA’s own scientists were warning about.
Certain types of cancer have also been increasing, and in this context, it is worth noting that one of the side effects of bovine growth hormone use in dairy cows is that it causes a spike in their production of a chemical called insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1). The presence of this substance is known to be a risk factor for cancer in human beings, and it was the possible contamination of milk with IGF-1 that so alarmed FDA scientists studying bovine growth hormone.
But President Obama’s food czar, in his former role in the FDA, was not content to simply ignore his own scientists and approve genetically modified agricultural products. It was also his idea to force any company labeling their milk products as “BGH free” to also include a disclaimer stating that no evidence existed linking BGH to any health problems in human beings. That was despite the fact that FDA scientists claimed that such health hazards were both possible and likely, and that subsequent testing has found many reasons to be alarmed. But for powerful insiders like this food czar, who worked for the very agricultural biotechnology company at the center of the GM food controversy both immediately before and immediately after his previous stint at the FDA, the real evidence about and the real health effects of genetically engineered food products are irrelevant. When there is money to be made by giant corporations, that is all that matters—the healthy and safety of the American people be damned.
The Circle Closes
There is no doubt that this appointment proves that no one in the corridors of power is looking out for the welfare of the common man, political rhetoric notwithstanding. Besides compromising food safety, the other significant result of this appointment is that it will inevitably help to reinforce the FDA’s bias against small independent farmers and food producers – like the raw milk sellers who are currently being victimized by an FDA blood vendetta. Non-corporate producers of anything are one of the few remaining threats to corporate hegemony, and as such, a silent war has been declared against them at all levels of our “democratic” government.
For our corporate masters and their puppets in government, we are all just a source of profits to be milked to the point of exhaustion before being tossed aside. Given this reality, it is hardly surprising that the U.S. food czar would be a representative of the corporate army that is seeking to conquer us all. When you think about it, how could it be any other way?

My wife and I raise a pretty good sized garden. We have for years frozen, canned, or dried food. We can fish, meat we have raised, venison and Elk. Bef we sell, grass fed. Hogs, we raise our own pork, They are not fed garbage either, we feed them right. A mash of different kinds of grain. They are fairly lean. We some and can the pork, also freeze some of it.
We are both health and I still work full time as a construction electrician. We have seven grandkids. I will be 70 in October, my wife is 63, a Suoix Indian, born and registered on the Rose Bud Indian reservation, in South Dakota.
I served my country in the military. In the sixties, and early seventies.
I grew up in a Democrat family. Old red neck loggers. That survived the Great Depression. (Barley) If I wold of asked mygrandma what a republican was, she would of washed my mouth out with soap. My very frst presidental lection, I voted for JFK. I had just turned 21. However, in 1996, ter all those years as being a Democrat, I quit. Now I am a indpendent voter. I choose who I think, is the best candidate for the small people. The Democrat Leadership went totally to He**. When ever our current president, or someone high up in the leadership, a Senator, Repersentitive, when their lips move, I know they are lying. They mabe make it sound good and flowery, call it a spin, but it is a lie.
There are millionof descent peoplein the Democrat Party. Aslo in the Republican party, just different ideas. What I am prying, and hoping for is that these millions of Democrats kick out the present leadership, get fresh people in that are working people, And the only special interest they have are the working people.
But any candidate with common sense, gets hammered in the press. It desn’t matter which party.If I vote Republican, I get their special interests, i I vote Democrat, then I get their special interests. Either way, we loose.
I suggest when you vote, look up the North American Tri-lateral; commission membership. Eliminate all who belong to this group. Republican, or Democrat. Many of the freshmen republicans do not belong to this group. Many. It was great to see fresh faces in congress. We need to add more from both sides, also in the Senate.

only problem I have with this article is when you talk about the puppet show etc… you only speak of the democratic party, nothing ever changes with republicans either. Both are full of it and are controlled by the illuminati. Don’t just comment on one party and to truth be told, the lines are so blurred between both parties now that you can tell the difference between one or the other.
I agree, I stopped on pmsnbc, while channel surfing, for a minute and heard some rhetoric from the dems, and as they said it, a thought flashed to me that those were the very same points the repubs were using in some of their campaign speeches for the 2010 elections!! talk about the lines being blurred!!!

We also need to get a movement started in ALL THE STATES. Each state controls the salary of their representative, PERIOD. The state pays for their own reps. (be it, state Rep/Senator or federal level).
NO donations to these folks, EXCEPT by individual STATE CONSTITUENTS… NO COMPANIES, CORPORATIONS, ETC. NO MONEY FROM OUTSIDE THEIR STATE. Limit that amount to $2500/state resident/year. This accomplishes two VERY IMPORTANT THINGS: 1) These horses patoots ARE FORCED to actually represent their constituents, because THEY are paying their salary; NOT the federal government.
and 2) This makes running for office AFFORDABLE by the little guy, not just the multimillionaire that is ‘well connected with lobbyists’.
AND PUT IN ONE TERM LIMIT, NO RETIREMENTS. Start talking this up with all your friends and Tea Party members if you belong to one. Lets put these horses BACK IN THE STALL.

Dynamite…you should add “The Shadows of Power” to your reading list. It is a tell all book about the Council on Foreign relations. The people who belong to it will surprise you. It includes most political figures on both sides of the aisle.
Dr. Ron Paul is the only republican candidate that will consistently uphold the constitution, he has a 30+ year record to prove it! His nickname in the House of Reps is Dr. No. He is the ONLY candidate who will return sanity to the office of the POTUS and a hope of restoring our republic. Dr. Paul talked about the debate topics back in 2008 and was viewed as a kook who was unelectable. After four years of Obama, all of the other candidates sound like Ron Paul wannabes. Our country will not survive as we know it without the principled leadership and integrity of someone like Dr. Ron Paul. Dr. Paul is the only candidate who can appeal to the independents and disaffected democrats. It will be hard for one of the other candidates who wear their Christianity on their sleeve to draw these voters. I would rather have an atheistic president who actually upholds his oath of office and obeys the constitution than a “Christian” president that doesn’t uphold the oath and takes the country down a ruinous path, i.e. George W. Very well written article and very true. Both parties have been corrupted by corporate money. As the current system stands, there is very little we can do. And, yes, we are asked to vote for the lesser of two evils which is their way of getting the citizenry to validate their corrupt elections. And now, with electronic voting and a private company doing the counting, elections are totally meaningless and gives the “counters” the means to select whomever they desire. Reforming the system is a monumental and almost impossible task.
Since I moved to a rural farming area, I have met many people who are building alternatives and shunning the
poorly run and unworkable capitalistic system. There is bartering of food and labor wherever possible. Unfortunately, urban and apartment dwellers are forced into acceptance and participation in a rotten system.
To demonstrate how this corruption seeps into the souls and lives of people, the Amish farmers in our area have been selling their land for mega-bucks to the gas companies, while many native organic farmers are refusing to do so due to the high level of pollution that accompanies “fracking.”. Money rules. It has corrupted our representatives and now it is corrupting the thoughtful and once caring community of Amish.

The majority of politicians we elect and send to Washington are all like apples.THEY ARE GREEN WHEN THEY GO IN AND ROTTEN WHEN THEY LEAVE.In the end most societies get not the government they want but the one they disserve.We need to face up to our monumental debts and agree that only a combonation of cuts in programs coupled with tax increases is the only way to get a handle on this masssive debt.It was a grand party for many years but the music has stopped and it is time to pay the band.Elect new leaders who have the best intreasts of the constituacy as job one.Let the leaders know that they have one term to get the balls rolling or they can pack up and get out of Dodge.

I would suggest that you read a book by Daniel Estulin titled “The True Story of The Bilderberg Group”. This will tell you all you need to know about what is really going on in the world! You talked about being a Democrat and changed to Republican—–you will learn there is no difference between the two. They are chosen to be candidates for both parties. I would like to add my idea on the pay scale for our Representatives and Senators. They should be paid according to the average income of the state they represent. Do you think that they will try to raise the level of living for their state so they can make more? Also, they shouldn’t be paid for giving speeches. You will find that Hilarious Clinton, Newt Gingrich, for two are or were members of the CFR. I copied the list years ago and there they were right smack dab in the middle of things, btw, Dick Chaney is a member also, there is a utube out on him and Hilary making a speech.

I remember when Newt Gingrich was a “New Ager” back some 30 yrs ago,but supposedly changed and decided to join the Conservative side of the Republican Party. Somehow, I don’t trust this man to this day. So be very careful and listen to what he says and follow if what he says he does. Just be sure you don’t vote for Rick Perry. He visited the Bilderberg Group and I would be willing to bet he has been tapped by them. He is the one that tried to ram the Trans Texas Corridor Super Highway down our throat , which would have started from Laredo, TX and gone all the way to Canada. This super highway (part if NAFTA) would create open borders and allow drug runners, and terrorist into our country. Our Constitution would have no place in this agreement. It would have given the Mexicans the right to move into our country and Canada. It would have taken land from our ranchers and farmers to build this 10 lane highway. This would be a toll highway and the proceeds from this would have gone to Juan Carlos of Spain. A lady in San Antonio found out about it and started a radio campaign about this. She and others got it stopped. At least for now. If Perry wins the election, he could revive this again. Also, this agreement would have formed the North American Union also known as the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) This was their way of forming a Socialist Mega state.
