Is It Fear-Mongering… or the Truth? with Brian Brawdy – Episode 115

If you were told that there is only a 3-day supply of food available to your grocery store at any given time and that any disruption in that food supply chain could be a calamity, what would you think? To listen to the mainstream media and societal reaction, you’d think someone just yelled “Fire” in a crowded room. To them, people who sound the alarm are “fear mongerers” and “delusional” and people to be laughed at. National Geographic has a television show geared to showing preppers as idiotic extremists. They want to devalue the message by showing us in less than favorable light.
Today Bill and Brian discuss this very subject and offer some healthy advice and encouragement for those of us preparing for an uncertain future. Sometimes we need the facts read back to us so that we are strengthened in our resolve to continue when the whole world seems to stand against us. Please join us today on Off the Grid Radio for this encouraging message that supports your perception that our lives teeter on a very precarious cliff, and lets you know that there are answers when it comes to your future survival.

I’m a little disappointed in your rant about Obama’s position on coal. Obama’s interest in getting rid of the coal industry is to usher in the new, clean, sustainable forms of energy for the future. As long as we continue to rely on fossil fuels for our energy needs, we will never have the motivation or the money to put into new technologies. This is why he hopes the costs of fossil fuels go up… because it isn’t until Americans are hit in the pocketbook that they will begin to demand these new forms of energy.
I’m not an Obama fan, but at least get the story straight. Talking about Obama “plunging us into darkness” with his energy policies IS fear-mongering. And, saying the only ones who will profit from these changes are the Flashlight industry is just silly…. new businesses will emerge in alternative energy as will those who support them. I love this site, but lets not choose political sides. After all, it doesn’t really matter who you vote for…. they are both sides of the same coin. By choosing a side, you are doing exactly what they want… we are fighting with each other instead of with them (our government.)
During Obama’s 2008 campaign he came right out and said that he was going to make it so expensive for the power companies that have coal fired plants that they would be put out of business. Look at the alternative energy companies like Solyndra where hundreds of millions of tax dollars went into loans that will not be paid back because those companies have gone bankrupt. The technology is not ready and will not be able to replace fossil fuels for decades yet. Destroying jobs in the coal industry and consumer energy industry will only make it more costly for the public at large. You make no mention of whether your home is using alternative energy sources. If not, then your comment borders on hypocracy. The Lord put the fossil fuels on this earth to be used. Most of this environmental doctrine is being promoted by those who worship the creation and not the creator. Be good stuarts and not idolators.
As long as we support the status quo, we won’t have new alternatives. I would love to have more (and cheaper) options for alternative energy and things are beginning to move in that direction because of the spikes in oil and coal prices. Coal is not the future.
I’m not saying stop using coal tomorrow, I’m simply pointing out the exaggerations in this interview.
I also find it ironic that this site promotes alternative energy products such as solar panels, but not an alternative energy political agenda. Being “off the grid” means off the (coal supported) power grid. You can’t really get off the grid without alternative energy. I think this Obama bashing is more about politics than it is about energy.
Oh yeah, and the Lord also made the sun and the wind and is telling us we’re idiots for not using them…
Political ideology aside…I’m pulling lint out of my pockets to purchase a generator when I can. I use this site for thoughts on how best to care for my loved ones in time of need. I believe every message brought up within the radio broadcast was said with that same intention.
If you think the new renewable energy sources will be cheaper then you are living in a dream world. In our entire history, nothing new that replaces something old is ever cheaper. It never has been. Will it work – yes; will it be more trouble – yes; will it require more equipment and changes – yes; will it be cheaper – NO. This is just another Obama tall tale he is spinning for you like he always does.
I consider part of my off-grid program for my homestead to be my coal-burning stove. I am not for polluting any more than need be, but to get completely off coal, oil, & gas in not going to happen any time soon. I have solar & natural gas, have 6″ walls, high efficiency appliances, etc., but there is abundant coal nearby & I will use it, he other nations will if we don’t, & we will use it cleaner too.
Exccellent. Thanks.
