“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father bay be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”
– John 14:13-14
Christians understand the power of prayer. We know that we can ask God for anything, in earnest faith, and He will do His best to provide for our needs as they fit into His will. We also know that not only can we can spend any amount time in prayer and supplication with God, it is what He desires. He wants us to spend time with Him, knowing His will, sharing our concerns as well as our joys and sorrows.
But, our prayer life should extend far beyond the moments of supplication and celebration. While those are important, God hopes and desires more for us. In those moments, we are responding to something, whether it is a need or a joy. A truly strong prayer life moves from seeking God for a reason to simply seeking God for God. When we reach the point where we move beyond prayer request, we move closer to God and seek to receive His mind. It allows us to listen to God and allow Him to offer His will for our lives. It is then that we have the ultimate opportunity to know the mind of God.
A strong prayer life does not mean asking God for more things. We have enough stuff and most of us truly do not need anything else. Instead, pray for more; pray to know Him as a father, a mentor, and a friend.
