I have been gardening for many years now. I used to do the "eye candy" gardening - strictly ornamental. Now, in the last year, I have switched over to vegetable and fruit gardening. It is like a completely different world. I am having fun learning all the tricks of the trade in a whole new venture and I am loving it. I love to stretch my expertise, and this is definitely doing it! It has been the most rewarding gardening I have ever done. I used to grow "eye candy" - food for the eyes. Now I just grow "candy" - food for the stomach! I have the reward of seeing beautiful plants growing, and at the same time, I am enjoying fresh from the garden produce that is giving me much more nourishing food.
At the same time, I am growing only heirloom varieties, so I get the privilege of gathering seeds and having free seeds for next year's garden! ...and they are all non-GMO, so I am much healthier.
It is the season to start my next batch of seedlings so they will be ready to get out in the garden in a few weeks. We live in Texas so there is a long season - really we garden year around. Now the winter garden is thriving and it won't be long till we have a spring garden beginning. I love to have an extended season!
