10 Advantages Of Honey

Honey is believed to be the first natural sweetener used. There are records of its use by cave dwellers.  But honey is a sweetener with a difference; it is the only one that offers us life-giving qualities. Honey is a predigested sweetener so it metabolizes in the body differently than processed sweeteners and sugars. It also contains the ingredients necessary to build – or rebuild – a human body. Our bodies require vitamins and minerals for health to be maintained. Most of the foods we have become addicted to are devoid of those nutrients, but honey has many of the vitamins and minerals our bodies require and in the exact amount that our bodies need for optimum health.

Ten Advantages of Honey Over Other Sugars:

  1. Non-irritating to the lining of the digestive tract.
  2. Easily and rapidly assimilated.
  3. Quickly furnishes the demand for energy.
  4. It enables athletes and others who expend energy heavily to recuperate quickly from exhaustion.
  5. Of all sugars, it is best handled by the kidneys.
  6. It has a natural and gentle laxative effect.
  7. It has a sedative value that quiets the body.
  8. It is easily obtainable.
  9. It is inexpensive.
  10. It has medicinal values: it soothes the stomach, relieves a cough, and reduces arthritis pain.

Honey also has antibacterial properties. The potassium in honey dehydrates the bacteria, killing them. Dr. W. G. Sackett, a bacteriologist from Colorado Agriculture College, tested the bacteria-killing abilities of honey by placing various bacteria into dishes with a honey-based medium. Within a few days (some within just a few hours), all the bacteria died. Germs for dysentery were destroyed within ten hours, and typhoid fever died within forty-eight hours. Germs for chronic bronco-pneumonia were dead by the fourth day. Pleuritis and peritonitis were dead as well.

A Guide To Creating, Harvesting, And Cooking With Natural Honeys…

Medicinal Uses

Insomnia:

Take one tablespoon of honey with dinner every night. After about a week, many fall asleep faster and sleep better. If this doesn’t produce a good sleep, or if something has given you tension late in the day, make a mixture of one tablespoon apple cider vinegar and a cup of honey. Store in a jar by the bed with a teaspoon; take two teaspoons when preparing for bed. If sleep doesn’t come within an hour, take another two teaspoons. Usually two doses will be enough, but this dosing may be repeated hourly as long as necessary.

Simple Cough Syrup:

Boil a lemon in water for ten minutes to soften the rind and produce more juice. Cut the lemon in two and squeeze the juice into a twelve-ounce glass. Add two tablespoons of glycerin and mix well. Fill the remainder of the glass with honey and mix well again. Take one teaspoon as needed for cough (stir well before use).

Muscle Cramps:

Cramps in the legs and feet have been controlled by taking two teaspoons of honey with each meal. This has shown to be helpful within a week. This remedy has also been known to control twitches of the eye and the corners of the mouth. When continued indefinitely, it may prevent their return.

Burns:

Apply directly to burns to relieve pain and prevent blisters. It provides rapid healing of the burned areas.

Honeycomb Allergy Treatments:

Chewing honeycomb may desensitize a person to hay fever and wind-born allergens.  Chew a piece for fifteen minutes, three times weekly. Discard what remains. Severe cases should start taking one tablespoon of honey with meals about three months before allergy season starts. Two weeks prior to the beginning of allergy season, start taking two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in eight ounces of water at breakfast and bedtime. Continue these throughout the allergy season.

*For allergy treatments, all honey/honeycomb remedies should be made from honey produced locally to be the most effective.

Honeycomb may also relieve sinusitis. Chew a piece about the size of a piece of gum for fifteen minutes. Discard what remains. Repeat every four to six hours as needed. If honeycomb is not readily available, take two teaspoons of honey with each meal.
