Making Your Own Shampoo From Natural Products

Regardless of the color hair you have, or whether it’s coarse, fine, or thick, it’s all hair. Maybe you’ve paid money to have those luscious blonde locks or that perfect red hair, or maybe you just lucked out. Taking care of it on a daily basis keeps it looking its best. This includes shampoos, and for those of you looking to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle, choosing the products you put in your hair is important.

Have you tried to pronounce some of the ingredients that are in your shampoo though? Chances are those ingredients you can’t even spell let alone pronounce are not going to be that great for your hair. Besides, what did everyone do before Madison Avenue created shampoo or before Pantene Pro-V existed?

Have you ever thought go making your very own shampoo? The wide variety of shampoos that are on the market now are all loaded with ingredients that are not that good for your hair, and while some of them claim to be organic and all natural, there are still some ingredients in them that aren’t completely good for your hair.

There are a number of recipes that are on the market to help you make your own shampoo that is completely natural. Here are just a few that you might want to look into.

Castile Shampoo

This is a pretty simple recipe. You’re going to need Castile soap, which can be found at a number of online retail sites. You’ll need one-fourth a cup of water, half a teaspoon of oil, and one-fourth a cup of Castile soap. You’ll mix these ingredients all together and put them in a glass bottle or other container you choose. That’s all it takes—you’ll be set to wash your hair!

As far as the type of results you can expect to see, there are several people that have great results, while others may not like the results they get. There are some people that claim to have a film left behind that can become bothersome and can leave the hair feeling greasy.

Shampoo from Baking Soda

Baking soda is what you find in a number of products nowadays from shampoos to powders and even toothpaste. Baking soda is an effective ingredient for a number of things, and now you can see the benefits it has on your hair.

Baking soda helps eliminate buildup from harsh water or other hair care products you may use. It leaves your hair soft and shiny, and you’ll notice results almost instantly.

You’ll start by mixing three cups of water with half a cup of baking soda. This mixture will get you a few hair shampoos. You can place the rest in a glass or plastic bottle of your choice. If you want to make it for one shampoo at a time, take one tablespoon of baking soda and mix it with one cup of water.

Before each use, shake the mixture up really well before applying to your hair. Now, after you’ve scrubbed this mixture in your hair, rinse it with half a cup of apple cider vinegar.

Soapwort Organic Shampoo

This type of shampoo is just what the name states. Soapwort is an ingredient that is naturally soapy, making it easier to rub in your hair as a shampoo. This option is only for people who are truly interested in going all natural since you won’t have anything like a typical shampoo gives you.

You’ll need four drops of rosemary oil, half a liter of water, two teaspoons of rosemary, and two teaspoons of soapwort. You’ll take the rosemary and soapwort and mix them together with the water. Let this mixture boil and then allow it to simmer for about twenty minutes. Cool the mixture down and strain it. After it’s strained, add in the rosemary oil.

Use about a cup each time you wash your hair. You can keep any remaining shampoo in your refrigerator for about a week, or you can opt to put it in the freezer where it will last longer.

Benefits That Come from Making Organic Shampoo

When you decide to make your own shampoo, you are going to be seeing there are a few different benefits that make this a great choice.

You’ll find that you’re saving money. You won’t be spending $6 for a bottle of shampoo that is going to only last you a few weeks. This is especially true for larger households.

Making your own shampoo is also a lot better for you than those heavy shampoos that are on the market and claim to be organic. There are a number of these companies that make shampoos and conditioners that are not in regulation with the FDA, and that means that a number of these chemicals are pretty unknown let alone the effects they could have on your hair or scalp over time.

Making your own shampoo from natural products is also going to be better for the environment. When you rinse your hair out, it’s only going to be natural things going down the shower drain as opposed to harsh and thick chemicals that could have a negative impact on the environment.

To say it’s going to give you better results is a tough one because every person has a different experience with homemade shampoos. While one person may notice softer and healthier hair, another person may notice hair that is weighed down or might have a dingy film left behind that is annoying. Like any store-bought shampoo, if you don’t like the effects of one shampoo, try another!

One thing to keep in mind is that you might not notice results right away. It might take a few washings to even a few weeks to see benefits. Your hair needs time to adjust to the new homemade mixtures. Shampoos that you buy from the store strip your scalp and hair of all natural oils. You might start noticing your hair feels heavy or might have a greasy feel to it. If possible, stick with it until your hair adjusts! The benefits are going to make this rough patch worth it! You’ll soon notice that your hair is light and full of volume your commercial shampoos would never be able to give you!
