The 10 States Americans Fled From In 2016

Americans are migrating to rural regions and small towns and abandoning highly urbanized areas and the rustbelt.

Data from United Van Lines’ 40th Annual Movers Survey shows Americans mostly prefer the country and the West to the big city and the East.

The biggest trend United found was a continued migration out of the Northeast; four of the 10 “outbound” states – that is, states that Americans are fleeing — are in that region. New Jersey ranks No. 1, with 63 percent of United Van Lines traffic being outbound.

  1. This can’t be right, where is California? People are leaving that state in droves.

  2. More inbound than out and to California most ppl return anyway, contrary nee Yorkers usually never return & have way more outbound. I’ve lived in California, new York & Texas so I know.
