How To Build The Perfect Off-Grid Home

Building a home anywhere is not easy, but building an off-grid home presents its own unique challenges. For starters, you’re responsible for your own electricity and water – two major items most residents in the U.S. don’t have to consider. And then you have to tackle other significant issues: How will you get food? Where will you store it? Will you be able to survive the winter?

Off-grid homes are the subject of this week’s edition of Off The Grid Radio as we talk to author Roxyann Spanfelner, whose new book, How To Build The Perfect Off Grid Home, tells you what you need to know to get started.

Spanfelner and her husband, Gary, built an off-grid home in the northern part of California, and Spanfelner penned everything they learned – the good and the bad.

She tells us:

  • What “single most important decision” must be made before construction even begins.
  • Why the size of the home matters more than many off-gridders realize.
  • How the concept of “keeping it simple” can mean the difference between a good experience and a horrible one.
  • What surprises and mistakes they learned from that you should avoid.

If you’re considering building an off-grid home, this is one book you should read! Listen as Spanfelner gives an overview of what you should know.
