Conservative groups which have long held the suspicion that the Internal Revenue Service has been targeting them for increased scrutiny and audits were vindicated last Friday when the Internal Revenue Service “apologized” for the over-zealous activity toward groups with the words “tea party” or “patriot” in their name. An apology seems hardly enough for this breach of the public trust by an agency that answers to no one and has a long history of taxpayer abuse. IRS abuse through targeting of conservatives has long been a concern of the Republican Party. New evidence suggests that

The volatile ups and downs in the market prices of precious metals read like a soap opera. It begins with the Federal Reserve—they confirmed they had every intention of continuing quantitative easing for the foreseeable future (to the point that those of us in the financial sector now refer to it as QE infinity, as

The so-called fiscal crisis in Washington is nothing but politics. Even though Congress and President Obama claim that the country is out of money, politicians on both sides of the aisle seem to be able to come up with money for pet projects. An investigation by Senate Republicans found that the Labor Department had enough funds to spare to promote unions and collective bargaining overseas. Republicans learned that the Department had given $2.2 million to the Solidarity Center (an AFL-CIO organization set up during the Cold War to help workers in Communist countries) to promote

April 12, 2013 At CPAC, Luke Rudkowski interviewed Congressman Timothy Huelscamp on his decision to vote against the NDAA which was due to the unconstitutionality of the indefinite detention provision. WASHINGTON, D.C. – In 2010, Republicans made a pledge that if they regained control of Congress they would place all legislation online at least seventy-two hours before bringing them up for a vote. A few days ago they broke they pledge again. On Wednesday, the Senate passed a 574-page continuing resolution that will fund the federal government for the rest of fiscal year 2013. In spite of the fact the Senate’s CR differed from theirs, Republican leadership brought the Senate version up for a vote just over eighteen hours after it passed the Senate. On

Congressman Timothy Huelscamp (R– KS) says that the Department of Homeland Security has consistently refused to answer questions from multiple members of Congress about its recent acquisition of weapons, assault vehicles, and over a billion rounds of ammunition. “I’ve got a list of various questions of agencies about multiple things. Far from being the most transparent administration in the world, they are the most closed and opaque,” said the congressman. “They refuse to let us know what is going on, so I don’t really have an answer for that. Multiple members of Congress are asking

WASHINGTON, D.C. – When asked for a comment at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this past week, one congressman said he believes President Obama would be more than willing to allow the government to shut down if needed to save Obamacare. Representative Huelskamp (R—KS) favors efforts to defund Obamacare by amending the continuing resolution (CR) that funds the government for the next six months, but doesn’t believe his party’s leadership will allow a vote on such proposals. Huelskamp said, “We made our shot in the House and our leadership refused to even allow a

With all of the news coverage about the fiscal cliff, it can be difficult to tell fact from fiction concerning our financial future. Here’s what you need to know. The Status Quo Unfortunately, our representatives have put us in a tight position: the Budget Control Act includes massive spending cuts due to start at the beginning of 2013, simply because our congressmen and women couldn’t reach a deal to reduce spending. While spending reductions are the direction our country needs to be headed in, this program includes a $55 billion decrease in the military budget.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Department of Homeland Security is funding a number of projects that, according to a new congressional report, have little connection to its charter for counter-terrorism Such hard to justify ventures included a hog catcher in rural Texas, a fish tank in a small Texas town, and an underwater robot in a Midwest city with no nearby major rivers or lakes. Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) released a report that acknowledged that much of the spending for the department’s Urban Area Security Initiative seems to be allowed under the program’s rules, but is inappropriate

For the generation of Americans who grew up with Fess Parker as Davy Crockett, Indian fighter, there is little doubt what kind of a legend he was. He was the same kind of man as portrayed by John Wayne in the Alamo—he was the man who went down fighting to the last against insurmountable odds. Most wouldn’t recognize him as the politicians that had his fill of Washington and his constituents. When asked by some voters what he would do if they didn’t reelect him he answered, “You may all go to hell, and I
