The key to your family’s financial survival is your assets, namely your money and your property. Therefore, protecting your assets must be one of your family’s top survival priorities. Unfortunately, many preppers put far more thought and effort into physical survival (storing food, etc.) than into protecting assets, even though protecting them is often just as important. There are two major threats to your family’s assets in today’s world: confiscation and inflation. Confiscation means that government will try to seize all or part of your funds through taxes or simply by taking it. Confiscation isn’t

Republicans got the financial analysts of the world all worked up over one of their platform proposals – a return to the gold standard. It’s a proposal that has been championed by Ron Paul for decades, but the last time there was major action on it was during Reagan’s gold commission in 1981. Now, House

The future of America may be playing out just to the south of us. Down in Argentina, most of what we fear will one day happen in the U.S. – seized pensions, crazy stimulus schemes, currency controls, and high inflation – has already occurred. The government has even openly sent the tax man after anyone brave enough to criticize its policies. Yet even with all this going on, Argentina is hardly a pariah in the international community like Greece. Seeing how they do it and get away with it, will the U.S. follow suit? It’s

Last week, the United States government released a report that showed less-than-expected grain reserves, with less acreage devoted to soybean and wheat crops. This report only exacerbated concerns over the global grain supplies and saw an uptick in U.S. and European grain futures, particularly soybeans, which saw a 6 percent increase in price from February to March. The first quarter of 2012 saw a 17 percent increase in soybean futures. Corn and soybeans are set to be the dominant force on world grain markets, and rising soybean futures have some economists concerned farmers will trend

With the announcement that Iran is halting its crude oil exports to Britain and France, oil prices shot to almost $105 a barrel in Asia today. Prices at the pump are already past $3.50 a gallon with the summer season still three months away, with some areas in California experiencing $4 or more a gallon. The impact goes far beyond families cutting back and where they go for summer vacation, however. Though oil prices were already rising, Iran’s decision to halt crude shipments has accelerated the cost spike. Once again, a single Middle Eastern country

Beef prices rose more than 10 percent over last year and the Department of Agriculture reports at least another 5 percent increase in 2012. In spite of official White House news that inflation stands at under 2 percent, that isn’t the reality consumers are seeing in the supermarket or at the gas pump. A major

Cruising the aisles of your local supermarket, it’s hard not to notice the rising prices of staple goods. Farmers market shoppers aren’t immune either, as farmers fighting bad weather and rising demand for scarce high-quality produce jack up prices. Worldwide there’s no price break either, as the United Nations has declared that food prices are

Preparing for an economic calamity is not like preparing for a weather or man-made disaster. The latter are immediate and decisive, and, although some disasters hit with little or no warning, it is readily apparent as to what has happened and the extent of damage that is left in their wake. Survival is predicated on

Buried in a recent Department of Labor announcement were the details of the stunning rise in food prices this year. Food prices, in March, rose 2.4%, the largest increase in more than 25 years, while gas prices rose by 2.1%. Of course, the Labor Department didn’t lead with this information. Instead, they mentioned that wholesale
