The Day Quality Health Care Died: Supreme Court Destroys the American Health Care System

WASHINGTON D.C.—On the last day of the Supreme Court’s term, the justices let stand the individual mandate in ObamaCare, with a stunning move by Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., who sided with the liberal members of the court in declaring that the individual mandate was constitutional since the mandate can be construed as a tax and Congress has the ability to levy taxes.

While supporters of the law and this administration are clearly celebrating the decision, most Americans (a clear majority) view it as encroachment of the federal government into private health care decisions. A flawed system anywhere it has been tried, universal health care will drastically affect the quality of medical services across the country and the ability to obtain those services in a reasonable time frame. Many doctors have said that if ObamaCare was upheld, they would close their practices.

House Speak John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement after the Supreme Court announcement:

“The president’s health care law is hurting our economy by driving up health costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire. Today’s ruling underscores the urgency of repealing this harmful law in its entirety. What Americans want is a common-sense, step-by-step approach to health care reform that will protect Americans’ access to the care they need, from the doctor they choose, at a lower cost. Republicans stand ready to work with a president who will listen to the people and will not repeat the mistakes that gave our country ObamaCare.”

The four dissenting justices issued the following statement:

“The act before us here exceeds federal power both in mandating the purchase of health insurance and in denying non-consenting states all Medicaid funding.”

This ruling enforces the largest tax increase in American history. In an increasingly downward spiraling economy, ObamaCare puts additional strain on a deficit that cannot be sustained as is. Increasing taxes on Americans, the majority of which will come from small business owners who provide over 65% of the jobs in this country and middle-class Americans stretched thin already, is an exercise of insanity. Clearly the federal government—the executive, the legislative, and the judicial branch—are disconnected from the reality of day-to-day living for most Americans. They sit in their glass bubbles on Capitol Hill and make decisions that affect us and in which they do not have to participate.

If ObamaCare is good for America, then Obamacare is good for the federal government. Immediate repeal of their “Cadillac” health care plans should be implemented forthwith.

Presumptive Republican challenger Mitt Romney has declared that if elected president, he will repeal the entire law and start over with health care reform.

We can only pray that he is elected and will keep his word.
