Don’t Buy Spiles For Tapping!

I have five maples on my property that I tapped a few weeks ago. One thing that I didn’t see in your article is that you can get a bit more sap from tapping the south side of the tree. Also, I’d like to mention that it is possible to tap trees for almost no cost, other than the electricity for the drill (if you already have one) and boiling. I just found an old metal ½-inch diameter pipe that I cut into spiles, and I cut small holes in milk jugs for buckets, which I tied to three to hold them there. The point is, you don’t have to buy industrial spiles or buckets.
