Letters To The Editor

Hi, I just came across an article in regards to a “get home bag.” You mentioned a Taurus Judge firearm and various ammunition for it. I am not familiar with this firearm. But it sounds like it can do a variety of things, which makes it very appealing to me. Can you please give me some more info about this gun? Thanks.

Dear anonymous,

We have written about the Taurus Judge several times. Begin reading here and it also might be worth reading here. There are pros and cons to this gun. On this one, you be the “judge.”

  1. The Taurus Judge Magnum was my choice for my 1st handgun. 45 long colt cartridge OR 410 shot shells. The Magnum offered the opportunity to use 3″ shot shells with a wide variety of choices (birdshot thru buckshot). I chose a mid length barrel for a little more output power and reasonable shot scatter. Shoots a large caliber but the factory grip makes it pleasant to shoot. Downsides are that it is hard to conceal and limited to 5 shots. Wish I had saved a bit more for their newer version with 6 shot and will handle 454 Casule. The regular 410 shot shells are affordable while the personal protection loads and 45 long colt can get expensive. I find it very accurate.
Plinking is with a 22 semi-auto when I can find the ammo at reasonable price.
