Mao’s revolution brought in a vicious communist government that eventually killed upwards of 65 million people over the course of time between 1928 and 1987. However, there’s a decided difference between China’s communist government and the people of this country struggling not just for economic freedom, but political freedom as well.
Bill Heid’s trip to China bought him a different perspective of the culture and the future of China. He learned that the people are not their government. He found their tremendous hospitality and welcome quite humbling, and he found that for all the oppressive native of a communist government, in certain areas our own government that is supposed to be the embodiment of freedom is more oppressive and restrictive than communist China’s.
