A Reason To Search

“Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him?” — Matthew 2:2

Once Jesus was born, three groups of individuals sought Him. The shepherds were the first to arrive. These men were quietly tending their flocks when they were surprised by a multitude of angels announcing the birth of Christ. Joyously, they abandoned their task to search out this Messiah, their King.  Once they found Him, they fell to their knees and worshipped Him.

The second group of people was sent by Herod. Following his orders, the three wise men left their home and headed east. Although they left with his permission, the wise men were really seeking Jesus for their own purposes. They wanted to find the child so they could see the one who was to bring peace. Like the shepherds, they also spent time worshipping the baby once they found Him.

Finally, Herod himself sought the baby. Unfortunately, Herod’s intentions were not as pure as the shepherds or wise men. He wanted to find Jesus out of jealousy and spite. Because of his own fears, he sought Jesus to kill him. Fortunately for the world, Herod’s plan failed.

Everyone approaches the manger for different reasons, but the important thing is that we approach. Once there, if your heart is open, it is nearly impossible for the love of Christ to enter your heart and build a home.
