Children of God

“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ.”

            — Galatians 3:28

We often spend a lot of time focusing on differences. Race, gender, ethnicity, even religion all seem divisive in some of the best of times and almost harmful at others. Why is it that we cannot seem to focus on the one, primary common element amongst all of us? We are all children of God.

I recently had a conversation with my elementary aged daughter regarding skin color. I’m not even sure what started the discussion, but her response tugged at my heart. She simply does not see a difference (and after being with her and her friends so often, I know she is not alone). To her someone who has different color skin is the same as someone who has blonde hair or red hair or brown hair. She reminded me that life is more exciting because no one is exactly the same.

Of course, differences move beyond race and religion, spilling into elements of life such as thoughts and ideas. Those who choose a prepper lifestyle are obviously viewing life differently than their grid-dependent neighbor. Does that make one better than the other? More superior? Simply speaking – no it does not. It only means we may have to see past our difference in order to help each other.

God made us in His image but that does not mean we look exactly like Him. It is our spirits, our souls that are meant to mirror Him. If God does not see a difference in men, why should we?
