Unlike any other relationship we might have, the unique element in our connection to God is that we are the only mobile component. Only we can make the chose to move closer to God, and only we can make the choice to move away. God never fails us. He never abandons His children and He never leaves us to fend for ourselves. Instead, it is us that make the choice to move away from Him.
Why is then, that so many seem to blame God for turning away from them? Anytime we make a decision without keeping God at the center, we move further and further away from Him. He stands still, longing to commune with us, to listen to our hearts and to guide our path. He has offered us the most beautiful opportunity – unconditional love and support; we simply have to reach out in faith and accept it.
God does not want to control our lives. He does not want to make decisions for us. He merely wants to be involved as we walk our daily lives. Every moment of every day, we have the opportunity to draw closer to God. Think about your own situations for a moment. Are the opportunities for you to seek God? Do you actively search His desire and will to see if it is aligned with your own? Take time in the future to stop and recognize those opportunities and use them to strengthen your relationship with the Father, drawing closer to Him.
