Preparing the Future

Listen To The Article

“God is using your present circumstances to make you more useful for later roles in His unfolding story.”

Louie Giglio

Sometimes it is difficult to understand why things happen. When you are standing in the midst of the flame, it is not easy to step back and see the entire picture; you are trying too hard to keep from being burned. But those difficult times do not have to be the end of everything. God has the ability to use them to shape your future.

My husband and I struggled with infertility for seven years. More than anything, I wanted to have a child, to feel the weight of that previous love in my arms. Time and time again, it did not happen. Instead I felt empty, abandoned, and completely alone. I could not see past my own grief to picture my future. Eventually, we were blessed with a healthy daughter but I learned more about myself, my husband, and our marriage in those seven years than I ever thought possible.

Now, almost nine years later, I find constantly find myself in a position to offer support to other women who are in that circumstance. I am not shy about my story and do not hesitate to answer questions, offer advice, or just be a shoulder to cry on whenever necessary. God used the difficulties I faced to make me into a person who could later help others. I never would have encountered many of the people I have, or made some of the choices we have made, if I had not experienced those difficult years.

Of course, it is easy to say this when looking back. In the midst of those years, I could not see that, nor did I want to. Instead, I encourage you to simply rely on God in those difficult times, knowing He will carry you through them and leave you stronger when all is said and done.
