The Compass

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”

                — Proverbs 3:5-6

A compass is an amazing contraption. No matter where you may be in the world, if you are lost you simply need to take out your compass, hold it in your hand, and the arrow will point towards North. The compass works simply because the core of the Earth acts as a magnet. With this information, you have a much better chance of finding your way home if you are lost.

As Christians, we also have a compass. God’s word works to guide us. It works when we are lost, when we are desperate, or even when everything is going perfectly. His word directs our daily living, our relationships, and our decisions. Although it may not look the same, and certainly does not work off a magnetic principal, our compass always leads points to our True North; it always leads us home.

Any type of compass will not work though if we do not take it out; God’s word is the same way. We cannot rely on it if we do not know how to use it. The only way to ensure we will receive the best benefit possible from God’s word is to stay immersed in it on a daily basis. When we do that, we know where to look for assistance during troubled times.
