“They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.” (Luke 6:48).
How solid is your foundation? That is a question we should be asking on a regular basis. Of course, we know that the foundation of anything is that object’s source of strength. It does not matter if that foundation is the physical bottom support of an object or simply whatever serves as the basis. It needs to be solid and it needs to be healthy. When we live a life of prepping, we are ensuring the foundation of our family will be solid and strong in the event of an unknown future.
But for the true success of a prepper to be measured, the foundation cannot simply be what you prepare here on Earth. Your preparation must also include the strengthening of your spiritual foundation as well. One of the parables depicted in Luke illustrates this perfectly. Jesus tells his disciples the story of a farmer who takes his carefully prepared seeds to plant. Some fall on the ground and are eaten by birds. Some fall into heavy thorns and are eventually choked out. The rest are planted in fertile soil and produce the most wonderful plants (paraphrased from Luke 8).
Just as we prepare physically each day, we must also do so spiritually. In order to cultivate a healthy spiritual foundation, we must build a life of prayer, study, meditation, and praise.
