Today Is The Day Of Salvation

38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.  Matthew 24:38-40

Many people wait until their sunset years, when they are staring eternity in the eye, to make a decision to follow Christ. Despite what some date setters think, no one knows the hour or the day of His return.

Jesus had been asked what the signs of His return would be. He listed wars, famines, pestilences and earthquakes as some of the signs. He also said the gospel would be preached to all the nations of the world. That means there will be no excuse for not having accepted Him as master.

He then tells us that things will be like they were in Noah’s day, people eating and drinking and going about their business, just living their lives. Two people working in a field, where one is taken and one left.

I have a friend who was a chopper pilot in Vietnam. He grew up in the church and decided that he would wait to get saved until he was about to die. He crashed his helicopter twice in Vietnam (both times mechanical failure). He says that while you are crashing getting saved is about the farthest thing from your mind. My friend could easily have died in either of those crashes and would have been lost in his sin.

If you are waiting for the time to be right before you get saved II Corinthians 6:2b says “behold, now is the day of salvation.” You do not know when the Lord will return or if it is your time to die, either way Christ’s gift of salvation is available for the asking.
