Planning and preparing is fun for me. I love to research, to learn new ways to accomplish things. I thoroughly enjoy making sure I have thought through every scenario possible and tried to account for anything that may occur in my plan to reach my goal. The problem with this type of planning is that the preparation becomes the focus, not the end result. If I left things solely up to the planning, I would never move beyond that stage.
But planning is important. I know that I cannot move towards a goal without working to account for all I will need to get there. However, it is possible to get lost in the process of planning. Certainly, planning is important, but action is as well. When you feel yourself getting stuck, you simply need to make the decision to go ahead a start. Step out in faith and take a few baby steps.
We are like the disciples in this way. How easy it would have been for them to ask Jesus to wait a few minutes, to take the time to finalize their plans before choosing to follow Him. But that is not what they did. Instead, when their Lord and Savior commanded them, they left the world as they knew it and followed Him. In each of our lives, God is calling us somewhere. It is these moments that define who we are and how we live. Instead of taking the time to plan every detail, we simply follow, knowing that our faith in Him is all the planning we need.
