Condition Your Hair Naturally From Your Kitchen

Healthy, shiny hair is possible without spending a fortune on conditioners at your local salon. If your goal is to save money and use all-natural products, you have all the ingredients you need in your pantry and refrigerator. All it takes is a few minutes of your time to whisk a fresh batch of conditioner together every time you need it.

Natural hair care products are the best source of nutrients for your hair. Many commercial hair care products are made of chemicals that can damage your hair over a long period. On the other hand, foods and other natural products from your kitchen and bath will give you healthy, shiny hair. The following recipes for healthy conditioners will help you get started. You may notice that the majority of the conditioners call for a cool water rinse. That’s because the tepid water closes the follicles of your hair and prevents flyaway, unruly hair.

All Natural Hair Care

Eggs are a natural source of protein, which makes them an excellent source of nourishment for your hair. Conditioners using eggs include those here. Many recipes also use avocado and other fruits. Some are used for their natural oil content and others for their healing properties.

  • Egg and Oil: Gather the yolk of one egg with one teaspoon of baby oil and one cup of water (keep the egg whites for an all natural facial). Beat the egg yolk until it is frothy. Add the baby oil and water and mix again. After thoroughly washing your hair, massage this egg mixture into your hair, pulling it through to the ends. Rinse well and dry naturally.
  • Wheat and Egg: Beat one egg yolk until frothy. Add one teaspoon wheat germ oil, one teaspoon lemon juice, one tablespoon milk, and one tablespoon glycerin. Massage this mixture in into your scalp. Rinse with a mixture of lukewarm water with lemon juice.
  • Lavender and Egg: This is an ideal choice for dry hair. You will need two drops of lavender oil, one egg yolk, one-half cup aloe vera gel, and one cup papaya pulp, one-half cup of coconut milk, and one-half cup whole milk. Use your blender to mix all of the ingredients together. The mixture will be thick when finished. Divide your hair into sections and apply the mixture from the roots of your hair to the ends.  You should allow this mixture to rest for ten to twenty minutes and then rinse with cool water.
  • Oil and Honey:  Combine two tablespoons honey, one-fourth cup olive oil, one-fourth cup vegetable oil, and one-half cup water in a small saucepot. Bring this mixture to a boil. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Pour the conditioner into a spray bottle and spritz on your freshly washed hair. Wrap your hair in a towel and allow to penetrate for fifteen minutes. Rinse hair and style as usual.
  • Avocado: Mash an avocado with coconut milk until it is creamy enough to spread on your hair. Comb through and allow to soak for ten or fifteen minutes before rinsing.
  • Avocado and Egg: This is the ultimate protein conditioner for your hair. It will give your hair a boost and may increase growth. Mash one avocado and add one egg yolk that has been whisked until fluffy. Apply this to freshly washed hair and wrap with a warm towel. Read a book for twenty or thirty minutes and then rinse.
  • Cream and Honey: This hair conditioner is tasty enough to eat. Mix one tablespoon honey with two tablespoons cream and apply to your hair (and your face if you want a facial while your hair is soaking). Allow your hair to rest while the honey and cream do their work. Rinse with cool water.
  • Banana and Honey: You might be tempted to eat this conditioner; however, use it for your hair and watch your locks glisten in the sunlight. Mash one banana with a fork and add one tablespoon honey. Stir together until well combined. Massage the mixture throughout your hair. Cover your head with a towel and relax for an hour. Rinse well and style as usual. Your hair will be silky and shiny for several weeks.
  • Vinegar Rinse: You do not have to worry about smelling like a pickle. This conditioner recipe contains natural herbs for a fragrance that counteracts the vinegar. Mix four cups hot water, three-fourths cup vinegar, one sprig of fresh rosemary, and one chamomile-apple teabag.  Once all ingredients are mixed, pour into a container and allow to steep for thirty minutes before you rinse you lovely locks with it.
  • Wheat Germ: This one-ingredient conditioner is a deep conditioner that requires shampooing after you apply. Mix six tablespoons of rice or wheat germ with enough water to make a thin paste. Apply this mixture to clean hair. Next heat a towel in the microwave for thirty seconds and wrap around your head. Allow your hair to rest for twenty minutes. Finally, lightly shampoo and rinse with cool water.
  • Avocado and Sea Salt: The protein and hydrating oils from the avocado combine with the clarifying properties of the lemon juice and sea salt to give you a luxurious hair conditioner. Mash one avocado with one tablespoon lemon juice and one teaspoon sea salt. Comb this mixture through your hair from roots to ends. Wrap hair in a warm towel or cover with a shower cap. Relax for half an hour while your hair is naturally nourished. Rinse with cool water and see the difference an avocado can make.

You can probably come up with natural conditioners of your own, using the recipes and ingredients in those here as your guide. Fruits are full of nutrients, avocados have natural oils and protein, and honey is a natural healer. This is just the beginning of what you can find in your kitchen for your hair.

Natural conditioners provide your hair with everything it needs to shine. All you need to do is take stock of your kitchen and pick up the ingredients you need at the local grocer. You should make these conditioners as needed for the best results. If you accidentally make too much, store the leftovers in your refrigerator and use within a few days of making it or share with your friends!
