“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” — 1 Peter 2:9
Scan the bookshelves of almost any bookstore and you will find hundreds of books dedicated to helping you find the real you. A simple search of that topic online reveals thousands of websites, blogs, and advice columns about the same topic. Helping people finding themselves is big business. Individuals spend thousands of dollars each year trying to find out who they are. They long to find their place in the world. Rich or poor, happy or sad, strong or weak, everyone wants to know where they belong.
Most of us grow up knowing we are precious in God’s sight; we even sing songs to that effect as children. But very few of us truly internalize exactly what that phrase means. We do not just belong to God. He has not simply created us to fall on our knees and worship Him. God took the time to craft a plan for each and every one of us because we are precious and priceless to Him.
As Christians, we do not have to dedicate a portion of our lives trying to ‘find’ ourselves. God has already helped us solve that problem. We are chosen by him to live as part of a royal priesthood. We belong to Him because He created us, loves us, cares for us, and protects us.
Take the time to celebrate the fact that you not only have a place in the world here, but a place in eternity as well.
