The Choice Is Yours

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” (Jesus – John 14:1).

Every situation requires some kind of a choice. In fact, when God created us, He gave us the ultimate choice in our free will. We know the truth and can choose to believe in Him or continue to walk in sin and darkness. When you believe in someone you trust them and when we choose to put our faith in God, we acknowledge our trust in His guidance for our lives.

Jesus reminds us of this choice when He offers comfort to His disciples. They worry about a future without Him, unsure of what that life will look like. He promises them the presence of the Holy Spirit once He is gone. But more importantly, He encourages them not to worry; continue trusting in the Father, trust in Him, and they will be fine.

But Jesus’ words to His disciples ring true for us today as well. We are standing in a similar place now. We are unsure of what our future will look like. Will we be safe? Will we have enough food to eat or water to drink? When we feel ourselves caught in the worry of tomorrow, we need only to remember our choice. We have chosen to place our trust in God, to rely on His understandings and His teachings. We may prepare for the future as Joseph did while He was in Egypt but we know better than to worry about it. Our choice to believe in God, to trust in His love for us, has to override any worry we may feel.

We have a choice when prepping for our future: trust or worry. I choose trust.
