New Documentary Shines Light on Vaccine Injury and Censorship

In a quiet Canadian town, filmmaker Dean Rainey met fellow creative Michael Oshie, a musician and videographer who had recently relocated from Toronto.

During the pandemic, the two connected through social media, with Dean noticing Michael’s lighthearted and vocal commentary on unfolding events. But something changed after Michael received his fourth COVID-19 vaccine dose. His online posts turned from witty observations to alarming updates about his declining health.

Michael’s mystery illness—paralysis, heavy limbs, breathing difficulties—set him on a desperate quest for answers. He invited Dean to document his journey, hoping that his story might serve as a warning.

Though Dean usually produced cooking shows and local documentaries, he agreed to follow the story. What he discovered became the backbone of a powerful and controversial new film: Why Can’t We Talk About This?

Piecing Together the Puzzle

Dean’s project was a deep dive into medical terrain he had never explored before. The film didn’t aim to persuade, but rather to document what was happening to Michael and others like him. Early on, Dean struggled to find experts willing to speak on camera.

That changed when Michael helped connect him with doctors and scientists who were sounding alarms—many of whom had already faced professional consequences for simply asking questions.

Among them was Dr. Stephen Pellich, a molecular immunologist from the University of British Columbia, who carefully explained the science behind possible vaccine injuries, including the risks posed by DNA contamination and SV40 sequences.

Other contributors included Dr. Chris Shoemaker, who lost his medical license for promoting informed consent, and personal injury lawyer Jasmine Daya, who had dozens of vaccine injury cases blocked or ignored by Canada’s federal compensation program.

An Uphill Battle for Exposure

The film reveals not just the physical trauma suffered by Michael and others, but the near-total institutional silence that followed. Medical systems, government agencies, and even churches seemed unwilling to acknowledge what had happened.

Michael’s own former church declined to screen the film, saying it didn’t align with their values. Dean’s attempts to schedule public screenings were repeatedly blocked by community centers and theaters wary of controversy.

The censorship extended online. Dean’s unlisted clips were flagged and removed from YouTube almost immediately. Others involved in the film were also targeted—receiving strikes, takedowns, or demonetization. The irony wasn’t lost on Dean: in a digital age where free expression is championed, his neutral, evidence-based documentary was being suppressed for questioning a dominant narrative.

Telling the Truth in a Controlled Information Age

Despite the obstacles, Dean and his team persevered. They released the film through their website and on YouTube, asking for donations to recoup production costs and fund future work.

With roughly $40,000 invested and over 600 hours of editing, Dean emphasized that Why Can’t We Talk About This? is a labor of love, created for people who feel silenced and alone.

The film is as much about scientific inquiry as it is about emotional healing. Audience members at screenings don’t always ask questions—they share. For many, it’s the first time they’ve spoken openly in years. Dean and his contributors see the project as a conversation starter, a tool to give voice to the injured and open dialogue where none has been permitted.

The Bigger Picture and the Danger of Silence

New mRNA manufacturing plants are being built across the globe, ready to churn out hundreds of millions of doses.

The documentary doesn’t just focus on vaccine injury. It also hints at broader issues: the dangers of self-amplifying mRNA technology, the suppression of effective early treatments, the erosion of informed consent, and the transformation of science into dogma.

Dean argues that this isn’t just about Canada, where compensation systems are dysfunctional, or Michael, whose suffering is heartbreakingly clear. It’s a global issue—governments and media around the world have turned a blind eye to people harmed by policies they once demanded everyone follow.

Dean believes the stakes are even higher now. New mRNA manufacturing plants are being built across the globe, ready to churn out hundreds of millions of doses. Despite ongoing questions about safety and long-term effects, the push continues—enabled, in part, by a tightly controlled media ecosystem that stifles dissent.

A Call for Accountability and Courage

The title Why Can’t We Talk About This? poses a haunting question that lingers long after the credits roll. In a world increasingly divided by ideology and fear, the film stands as a quiet, compassionate plea for honesty. Dean doesn’t ask viewers to become activists or embrace conspiracy theories—only to listen, reflect, and consider that the truth might be more complicated than we were led to believe.

And for those who are suffering—like Michael, and the many others whose stories remain untold—the film offers something even more powerful: validation. A reminder that they are not invisible, and that someone cared enough to document their pain, even when the world refused to look.
