Small-Town Clinics And Privacy Are Casualties Of Coming Obamacare

Obamacare is driving a massive centralization of health care and medicine in the United States. Independent physicians and clinics are being pressured to turn their practices over to corporations and networks.

A prime example of this occurred in the small town of Fairplay, Colorado, where residents enjoyed the services of Dr. Katherine Fitting, an old-time country doctor. Fitting owned and operated the South Park Medical Group, an independent clinic. She lived in the community and operated it as a small business.

Now the South Park Medical Group has been sold to a corporation called Miramont Family Medicine. Dr. Fitting is no longer an independent physician; she is an employee of Miramont Family Medicine. Miramont is a company designed to cash in on Obamacare.

One of the first things that Miramont will do in Fairplay is to computerize all of the medical records. A database with a digital record on the health and financial information of almost everybody in the community will be created.

Corporate Takeover of Medicine

Companies like Miramont are buying up small clinics because they believe that they can make huge profits from Obamacare. In particular, they think they’ll make big money from the health insurance exchanges and tax credits that pay for insurance for millions of low-income Americans.

Soon the only place to get healthcare in America will be from corporations. This will include some of the nation’s largest retailers, including Walmart, Kroger, CVS Caremark, and Target, which are among the giant retailers adding clinics to their stores. The clinics offer basic medical services in direct competition with doctors and clinics.

It will be impossible for doctors in private practice or even group practice to compete with such corporate giants. The companies hope to profit because it will be easy for anybody to get insurance through the health insurance exchanges. The Washington Post reported that the federal government will not verify the information of applicants – such as income — for the health insurance credit.

Not surprisingly, your privacy will be one of the casualties of this system.

Your Privacy

A largely ignored provision of Obamacare is the creation of a massive database of information about all the people that use the health insurance exchanges. This database will bring together your medical records and data from the IRS, the Department of Homeland Security, the Justice Department, and the Department of Health and Human Services.

These efforts have been cloaked in secrecy, yet contractors have been awarded $142 million to create the computer network that will run the database. Some reports indicate that it will be operated by a subsidiary of United Healthcare.

Basically, the federal government will have access to your financial records and your medical records because of Obamacare if you sign up for the health insurance exchanges — and many Americans will have no choice but to do so. It’ll be the only way that they’ll be able to afford health care.

In other words, people will be forced to turn a vast amount of vital data over to the federal government. The government will know a great deal about you, and it will be in a database that can be easily hacked.

Takeover and Centralization of Medicine

Basically, Obamacare represents the final stage in the corporate takeover of medicine, which could lead to the centralization of American medicine. It also represents a huge threat to the privacy and independence of average Americans.
