Agenda 21: Blueprint or Distraction?

In a world where governments, corporations, and financial institutions are constantly finding new ways to steal sovereignty from the people, eternal vigilance is an absolute requirement. However, it is also necessary to be discriminating – to be able to separate the wheat from the chaff, or the signal from the noise.

All across cyberspace, there is now a lot of chatter about an obscure pronouncement from the United Nations called Agenda 21. Issued during the 1992 UN Conference on the Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Agenda 21, in the words of its authors, is intended to be “a hands-on instrument to guide the Earth in a sustainable manner.” Agenda 21 calls for “a transition to a global civilization in balance with nature.”

Naturally, any document with UN backing that refers to itself as a hands-on instrument for controlling the entire planet has to be taken seriously. But is Agenda 21 really a blueprint for a one-world dictatorship, as some claim, ready to seize power under the guise of promoting “sustainable development”? Or is it misdirection, an essentially toothless and meaningless document that distracts people’s attention from the real threat to our individual freedoms?

Sustainable Development and the One-World Government

Sustainable development has become a popular concept with many world elites. Those who promote sustainable development claim that the earth is facing an environmental crisis caused by human activity, and that the only way to save the planet is to make radical changes in our lifestyles, political systems, and economy. It is this ideology that motivated the United Nations to create Agenda 21, which is actually an updated version of an earlier book called Our Common Future, published by an organization named the World Commission on Environment and Development. Among this work’s prescriptions for change in the name of sustainable development are an end to private property, a redistribution of wealth, and a drastic reduction in world population.

Here in the United States, there has been an ongoing attempt to implement the goals of Agenda 21. President Clinton created the President’s Council on Sustainable Development to push from the federal level, while an organization called the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives has managed to convince 544 American communities to follow its lead in starting various programs that are supposed to hasten sustainable development at the grassroots level.

The Real Meaning of Agenda 21

Agenda 21 reveals much about the mindset of bureaucrats and global elites. If indeed global warming and other environmental problems are a threat to humanity’s survival, it is important to realize that this situation has been allowed to develop on the watch of the very same people responsible for the creation of Agenda 21, who have been running the show all along through shadow organizations like the UN and the U.S. government. Now, these same people want to assume even more control so they can supposedly protect us from ecological Armageddon. In their minds, the rest of us are just a bunch of ‘useless eaters’ who can’t possibly be counted on to run our own lives or solve our own problems. In the end, their answer to everything is to assume more power and control, even though they have proven over and over again that they do not have our best interests at heart, and that even if they did they are not competent to manage things correctly anyway.

While many are gravely concerned about threats to our freedom from the Agenda 21 agenda, it is striking that in the almost twenty years since this “hands-on instrument” was published nothing has really changed. The public and elected officials have been warned repeatedly about the dangers global warming in particular supposedly represents, and yet in all that time there has been no noticeable change in the direction of the world’s economy or in people’s lifestyles—a lot of talk about it, yes, but very little actual change. What the past nineteen years seem to have shown us above all else is how powerful the oil companies and the fossil fuel industry remain, and how they can still control the world’s political system to guarantee that their profits margins are not just maintained, but actually improved. If Agenda 21 were really going to be the excuse used to take us all into a one-world dictatorship under the banner of sustainable development, it seems that we might have seen some real evidence of that before now.

Peak Oil: Identifying the Real Threat

In reality, it is silly to think that the people who are truly in control of things would be making public pronouncements telling us exactly how they are going to go about creating a New World Order. The reason Agenda 21 has had no obvious effects is because these kinds of declarations and announcements are public relations, not public policy. They are a sleight of hand designed to make us look in the wrong direction for the source of the danger.

So far, scare stories about global warming have not been enough to rouse anyone to action – but were they ever meant to? In fact, there is another problem connected to over-reliance on fossil fuels that is much more imminent, and a much greater threat to the present economic and social systems. Peak oil refers to the fact that most of the recoverable oil supplies in the world have already been extracted, and there is not going to be nearly enough oil left to feed the world’s growing addiction into the future. Peak oil could bring the entire world economy to its knees sooner rather than late – which is perhaps why it is never mentioned in the mainstream media, on the floor of Congress, or by officials connected with the UN. It was, in all likelihood, the real reason for the U.S. interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya – yet the mainstream media will not, under any circumstances, let that part of the story be told.

While public discussion of this coming calamity is largely confined for now to the Internet, you can be sure that behind closed doors where the real plans are being made at places like the Bilderbergers and the Bohemian Grove, peak oil is being discussed a lot. Of course if they really wanted to save us from it they could, by pushing through the development of alternative energy. But the fact that alternative energy is being allowed to flounder around at a time when it is supposedly desperately needed to stop global warming tells us a lot. It tells us that global elites want to use the coming peak oil crisis as an excuse to seize total control.

Finding the Truth

Allowing people to think that Agenda 21 is the real blueprint for the coming changes is brilliant strategy, because it keeps people from paying attention to the real villains. If you look closely, you can see them right now – they are the little men who are hiding behind the curtain on the opposite side of the room. They are the real wizards, and it is against their plans and machinations that we must be eternally vigilant.
