Honeybees suffered another horrific loss this week; 37 million bees were found dead in Canada. The massive honeybee death comes just two weeks after 25,000 dead honeybees were found in an Oregon parking lot. Ontario beekeeper Dave Schuit suffered massive bee deaths in his 600 hives in recent days. The Canadian beekeeper, like many of his peers from around the globe, blames neonicotinoids, a type of insecticides, for the further decline of the honeybee population.
According to Schuit, once corn planting began in the area, bees began dying off by the millions. The European Union banned multiple pesticides this spring to help protect honeybee health. Neonicotinoids were among those banned.
