During a radio show interview with Christian host Jan Markell of Olive Tree Ministries, Michele Bachmann talked about the critical events which reinforce her Biblical take on current world events. The Minnesota Republican cited President Obama’s “arming of Al Qaeda” in Syria as evidence.

“US taxpayers are paying to give arms to terrorists,” she said during the Understanding the Times radio show. “… Now what this says to me, I’m a believer in Jesus Christ, as I look at the End Times in Scripture, this says to me that the leaf is on the fig tree and we are to understand the signs of the times, which is your ministry, we are to understand where we are in God’s End Times history.”

She continued, referencing the current culture:

“And so when we see up is down and right is called wrong, when this is happening, we were told this — that these days would be as the days of Noah. We are seeing that in our time. Yes it gives us fear in some respects because we want the retirement that our parents enjoyed. Well they will, if they know Jesus Christ.”

Bachmann’s comments came just a few days after bestselling author Joel C. Rosenberg told the media that while he urges caution, connections between events in Syria and the biblical end times could be legitimate.

“I think we have to be very careful not to overreach or to sensationalize a terrible situation that’s happening to real people right now and to draw a conclusion too quickly,” he said. “That being said, the prophecies of Isaiah 17 and Jeremiah 49 are very important. They speak to the utter destruction and judgment of the city of Damascus at some point in the End Times future.”

Isaiah 17:1 says, “Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins.”

Michele Bachmann urged Christians not to fear the End Times, but to rejoice. The Congresswoman said, “This isn’t to cause us fear. This is to cause us, I believe as believers in Jesus Christ, to grow up and mature in our faith and embrace (Scripture). The prophets said they longed to look to this time. The prophets longed to look into the future to see these days — to see these days of His coming, to herald His coming.”

“And we’re privileged to live in them,” Markell said.

“Yes we are privileged,” Bachmann responded. “Rather than see this as a negative, we need to rejoice. Maranatha, Come Lord Jesus, His day is at hand.”

Representative Bachmann is not the only American who believes the End Times and the current situation brewing in Syria are linked. According to the Christian Post, one in every three United States citizens believe the End Times biblical prophecy will be prompted by the ongoing civil war in the Middle East. The same survey found that one in five Americans think the “world will end” in their lifetime.

Approximately 32 percent of those polled think the Syrian battles are part of the Book of Revelation prophecies. When they were asked if they believe that the “US military intervention in Syria might lead to the Battle of Armageddon” 18 percent of the participants responded in the affirmative.
