Using baking soda as a toothpaste alternative is just one of its many uses.

Baking soda is unusual in that it’s inorganic. That just means that you cannot produce baking soda from anything that was ever living. Household odors consist mostly of organic oils. Therefore, baking soda works like a charm for getting rid of odors because the inorganic powder neutralizes them.

Dishwashing Delight. If you have hard water in your home and it leaves ugly spots on your dishes that you’ve run through the dishwasher, add a spoonful of soda to your next load. Your dishes will come out spot-free.

Cleaning Grout. A simple paste of three parts of baking soda and one part water is all you need. Nonetheless, make a new mixture each time you plan to attack the space between your tiles.

Clean A Messy Brush. To make brushes and combs fresh again, soak them in a mixture of 1-quart hot water and 2 tablespoons baking soda for an hour. Then, rinse and enjoy your like-new brushes.

Smelly Suitcases. Is your suitcase a bit musty? The night before packing, pour a cup of baking soda in it, close it and shake. In the morning, vacuum up the soda and the smell should be gone.

Get Rid Of Stains Before They Start. Keep some on hand, and if your baby spits up, sprinkle baking soda on the spot to neutralize odors and absorb the spill before it sets. Moreover, it works well for grease splatters on clothes as well. Rub into the grease spot to absorb as much grease as possible. This will make it harder for stains to set and will soak up a lot of the grease before it works its way into the fibers of your clothes.

Cleaning Your Garden Greens. To clean up your spinach, Swiss chard, or any other leafy vegetable, fill a large bowl with some fresh water and add a teaspoon of baking soda. Next, move the vegetables around in the water, soaking them for three minutes, then rinse. The result? Almost all of the dirt will fall to the bottom of the bowl and your greens will be clean.

Tobacco Killer. Get rid of stubborn odors and stains from cigarettes by adding a half a cup to the wash cycle when doing your laundry.

Cleaning Paint. What’s the easiest way to remove crayon, pencil, ink, and furniture scuffs from painted surfaces? Just sprinkle baking soda on a damp sponge, rub clean, and rinse.

Scuff Remover. To remove scuff marks left on your floor by dark-soled shoes, rub some baking soda into the spot with a wet rag. They will virtually disappear.

Cleaning Blenders And Food Processors. If dried on food gets stuck in the blades of your blender or food processor, baking soda can help. Add 1 tablespoon of soda along with 1 cup warm water to the bowl, put the lid on, and blend for 10-15 seconds. Then, wash as usual.

Fire Prevention. Because baking soda creates carbon dioxide, it’s a useful substance to have around where there are flammable chemicals or grease. Keep a package handy and throw it on the fire in case of emergency. It will prevent oxygen from feeding the flames.

Air Freshener For Carpets. A mixture of equal parts baking soda and cornstarch can be sprinkled on a smelly carpet or rug to freshen it up. Sprinkle some on at night, then vacuum up the powder in the morning and the smell should be gone.
