12 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. Daniel 10:12-13
Before we can engage the enemy in battle we must be know who it is we are fighting. Often we waste time and energy flailing around at phantom opponents sent by our true enemy.
Daniel had been praying, fasting, and supplicating himself before the Lord for three weeks seeking answers to his prayers. When finally and angel appeared and told him God had heard his prayers from the beginning, but the angel was delayed by the prince of Persia. This prince was no earthly man but a high ranking minion of Satan, strong enough to withstand battle with and angel for three weeks. It was not until the archangel Michael intervened in the fight that the angel was able to slip away and deliver his message to Daniel. The battle was not over as the angel tells Daniel in vs20 he is returning to continue the fight with the prince of Persia.
Ephesians 6:12 tells us “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Our battle is against spiritual things, not necessarily against the people used by Satan. If we look on these people as the enemy, we miss the real power behind them. If we look on them as a mission field, we will see them in the correct light.
We cannot save them, only Christ can do that, but no one knows how many God will call out of Satan’s service. Who will tell them if not us?
