The Purpose of the Mist

“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

                — James 4:14

The book of James is a unique book that helps Christians understand how they can practice their faith in the midst of the daily lives. Specifically, James instructs believers how they can approach life while still maintaining faith. He understands the struggle Christians face when they try to live both in and apart from the world. Throughout his book James calls the believer to mature in the walk of faith and to live life for Christ.

In Chapter four, his reminds believers that life focuses on where we place our emphasis. He also states us that as Christians, we should be able to answer the question, ‘what is your life,’ by describing us as mist; we are here for a short while and then we will be gone. Many struggle with this notion and have difficulty understanding how we can be like the mist. However, mist, just like each and every one of us, serves a purpose. Mist covers portions of the earth, providing moisture and coolness to areas prone to dryness. Likewise, we are not just on this Earth floating aimlessly; we are here to offer the beauty of God’s grace to those who may need it. We are here to follow God’s will.

Our time on Earth is limited, so take the time now to prep for your own eternity.
