A Rifle For Preppers: The Mosin-Nagant

Every prepper should strive to own a center-fire rifle of some kind. This rifle should also be of sufficient caliber and power to take big game cleanly. You can spend hundreds (even thousands) on a nice, big game rifle, but most preppers are budget-minded and would rather put that kind of money into other types

Dealing With Deadly Snakes In The Grass

Indiana Jones and I have at least one thing in common: we both hate snakes. While I don’t hate all snakes like Indy, I do have an aversion to being around poisonous ones. There are four types of poisonous snakes in North America, ranging from aggressive to shy. Rattlesnake The most widespread of the poisonous

Bartering In Tough Times

“The end of the world as we know it,” or TEOTWAWKI for short, can take many forms, but there is a good chance that whatever brings it on will be accompanied by monetary problems. Our currency may become devalued or even worthless. There is the story of a post-WWI German woman who took a wheelbarrow full of German marks to the store to buy bread. She left it outside the door, and when she returned, someone had dumped the money on the sidewalk and stolen the wheelbarrow. While this may not be a true story,

Don’t Be The Next Tragedy

A recent tragedy on the Ozark trail has really touched me and gotten me thinking. A thirty-six-year-old father who was an Air Force veteran and his two sons, ages ten and eight, died of exposure after getting turned around on their way back to the lodge where they were staying. The weather had started out warm, and they were ill-prepared for a temperature drop into the twenties along with a hard heavy rain. Searchers had to turn back for the night when flash flooding made the search in the dark too dangerous to continue. They

A Look At Alternative Weapons For The Prepper

There is a reason people use firearms for defense and hunting— they just work, plain and simple. But many people in this country live in places that don’t allow firearms, or for some reason or another, they do not wish to own a firearm. There are still many ways you can make sure you are

Bow Hunting: Compound vs. Traditional Bows

Bow hunting is something I was raised with. When I was a child, my dad would take us to my great uncle’s place in Potter County, Pennsylvania, every fall so he could chase whitetails around in the mountains with an old Black Widow recurve customized by Fred Bear himself. He even got my mom involved

How To Stay Warm In The Field

It was first light in January, and we were unloading snowmobiles at the caretaker’s house at the Taylor Park Dam in Colorado. We were almost ready to fire up the sleds when the caretaker came out and asked, “Do you guys realize it’s sixty-one below?” I thought it seemed a little chillier than normal. I

Hunting With A Muzzleloader – Where Do You Start?

Muzzleloading is a good way to hunt that trophy or just put food on your table. A muzzleloader will take the biggest game with ease, and the newer inline models offer pinpoint accuracy so you can make that tough shot. Muzzleloaders are also great for small game hunting. A smoothbore can be loaded just like

Six More Things Preppers Can Overlook

The first six things I wrote about brought so many new thoughts to my mind that I just had to sit down and write six more. While they may seem like basic common sense, it is easy to overlook one or all of them. I just hope it might nudge someone in the right direction. A Plan Of Action Do you know what you would do if you awoke to find your house on fire? If you live near the coast, do you know your hurricane evacuation route? How about a plan of action for
