Penn State Professor Accuses Preppers Of Cult-Like Behavior

Preppers are a cult, according to a Penn State professor who has been studying the prepping concept. Dr. Peter Behrens feels that anyone who stockpiles more than seventy-two hours’ worth of supplies is paranoid. The learned professor thinks there are three tiers of prepping: pastime, preoccupation, and pathology. I imagine he would see the errors in his thinking about day five into a civil unrest scenario. During a recent interview, Dr. Behrens made this sweeping comparison. The Penn State professor thinks that anyone spending more than 10 percent of their time on firearms training, and

5 Habits Of Self-Sustaining People

5 Habits Of Self-Sustaining People

There are two kinds of self-sustaining people in this world. Some people grow up in the big city, and by the age of forty, they are sick of smog and traffic. So they sell everything, buy ten acres out in the country, put a fence around their yard, build a house exactly in the center, and start a vineyard or raise a few llamas, only to be seen in the local grocery store once a month. I am not this way. I understand why these people do what they do, though, and I applaud them.

Ron Foster Interview Part 3 – Prepping Tips & Tricks

OTG – As a supporter of the “it takes a community” survival mindset, what tips can you give for not becoming a victim should such a natural or man-made disaster occur? RF – I think that far too many preppers are fixated upon prep secrecy or OPSEC because they believe that telling anyone anything about your food stores or views on preparedness is a huge mistake. Now I am totally in favor of applying basic common sense OPSEC, but the fact remains that it is also extremely important to begin building a like-minded community before

Ron Foster Interview Part 2 – Writing Prepper Fiction

OTG – What prompted you to begin writing prepper fiction? RF – I guess to be honest, it was money. Money to buy more preps and get paid for the legacy of knowledge I have that I wish I could of bought before I went to the expense and physical hardships to obtain personally. Value is an arbitrary term. I got paid, well not me personally mostly, for my opinion as a gemologist at the rate of $190 an hour to do an insurance appraisal on jewelry, or a legal dispute on a gemstone because

Staying Calm in the Face of “Superior Minds”

Staying Calm in the Face of “Superior Minds”

The world has very little mercy for preparedness-minded souls and Christians. Everywhere you turn, there seems to be someone who looks down on your point of view and your lifestyle. These “superior minds” have evolved past “primitive” belief systems, and they know there’s no reason to worry about things in this “modern” era of technology and conveniences. Running into these people used to leave me fuming for days. They were so smug in their mindset and so arrogant in the way that they talked down to me when speaking of my faith and my habits.

How To Jump Start An Aging Mind

If children’s brains are referred to as sponges, able to soak up vast amounts of information at a rapid pace, what does this say about our older brains? Does that sponge really just dry up, leaving us with a useless impermeable rock in its place? If so, we’re all in really big trouble. Past research tells us that learning at an old age, while not impossible, can be a frustrating hurdle for the majority of mature brains. Our older learning processes no longer have the same capacity as they did in our younger days, and

Prepper Kitchen 101: Wheat Basics

Wheat is one of those ubiquitous foods that allow for so much variety, and packs an amazingly hefty protein and calorie punch too. Unless you need to find a gluten-free alternative (in which case you might want to think about tapioca), wheat will probably be a mainstay of your prepping plans. You can cook it
