Letters To The Editor

November 22nd, 2010

Dear Editor,

Can heirloom seeds be grown hydroponically? Folks could start their gardens in their apartments, THIS WINTER (in time for the presumed crash precipitated by another 1.3 Trillion printed by the FED). When government collapses, the “major agri-corps” will urge the authorities to arrest, whatever, heirloom growers, but I don’t think that will happen. THE AUTHORITIES will be “BROKE”, themselves, and policing for non-GMO crops will take a “back-seat” to protecting neighborhoods and other “borders”, real/imagined. Actually, in the “Deluge”, the cops of all kinds will be protecting, FIRST, THEIR families (and those neighbors they “trust”) from roving, famished, outlaw-bands. But a seed bank IS a very rational move, in these “interesting times”.

Curious

Dear Curious,

Yes, you can absolutely grow heirloom seeds hydroponically. Hydroponics is a whole new ballgame though, as far as how to start your seeds, what you have to do to encourage growth, etc. However, you can utilize the system year round and grow more vegetables in a smaller space. And it wouldn’t be out there in the open for everyone to see! Thanks for writing!

Dear Editor,

I enjoy your website and the valuable information on survival and preparedness.

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed that you would print this parody [Obama Administration Now Offering Free Physicals and Beer with Every Full-Body Airport Scan]. There are plenty of other outlets for this type of pseudo-humor. This is a very serious issue that needs to be taken seriously. Let late night talk show hosts make fun of the policies, however outrageous. We readers count on you and your team to present honest and helpful ideas to help us prepare for what is coming. I believe it would be wise and in your best interest to refrain from future attempts at humor.

Disappointed

Dear Disappointed,

I read your letter and could not help but think of this quote by Bill Cosby: “You can turn painful situations around through laughter. If you can find humor in anything—even poverty—you can survive it.” Isn’t that what we’re trying to do? Survive this government overreach and the attacks on our way of life?

While we want to always present our readers with all the facts and helpful ideas we can, we must not lose sight of our basic humanity and the need we have for laughter. If we laugh at the absurd, then it ceases to have any power or control over our minds and hearts. And that’s where the real battle is taking place.

However, our readers have made several suggestions about how to post and use these articles. Your comments and concerns are important to us, and we will take all of them under advisement as we formulate editorial policy in regard to the satire section of the website. Thank you for writing!
