A Place For The Prepared

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.

            John 14:1-4

Every day we work to prepare for the future. We organize our homes and supplies, plan how to care for our families, and study to learn new things. We want to ensure that if the unthinkable happens, we are ready for it. All of our hard work is not in vain though. Knowing our families will be taken care of provides us with a wonderful sense of peace. As we prepare, we are also teaching them so they will be taken care of even if we are not with them.

Has God not also done the same thing for us? He sent His son to walk amongst us, to live as a human and work among us. He led us , taught us, and left His wisdom for future ages through His teachings. And when His time on Earth was done, He left us to prepare a place by His side knowing we had all we needed to join Him there. We simply have to believe in Him and make the commitment to follow Him.

We have a choice as to the type of future we want. Certainly, we have a responsibility to prepare for our earthly future; we cannot neglect ourselves or our friends and families. But, we also cannot fail to prepare to receive the future Jesus planned for us. The two futures are not mutually exclusive.

The only thing you must ask yourself is what future are you preparing for? If you cannot say both, you must be willing to reevaluate your life.
