It Was Supposed To Be A Relaxing Inner Tube Ride Down A Beautiful River… – Episode 005

logoSolutions From Science founder Bill Heid and his wife were in Belize recently on a working vacation and had planned an afternoon on a world-famous river cave tubing trip. He recounts the trip and how his wife’s fears presented him with a survival planning lesson he’d never thought of before.

  1. I am limited in my bandwidth. I need to be able to REALLY download it at my leisure to listen to when I can. How about a download link that enables me to save somewhere on my computer?

    • There is a download link above, right under the play button. You can also download it by subscribing to our podcast via iTunes.

  2. What is this big push by everyone (including survivalists of all people) to own gold all about? If we get to extreme levels (which we are close), owning gold is pointless. I don’t think anyone has studied historical economics in this country. We are getting eerily close to the economy of the great depression and what happened then? Roosevelt confiscated gold, both holdings and actual pieces of gold (coins, etc…). Don’t believe me? Look it up, it took place in 1933. Maybe I’m way off, but I think gold is the new real estate. It’s going to bust and bankrupt just about every nation out there and what may push us all into this survival requirement. Besides, how are you going to collect your holdings if we are all broke, on the run, martial law, etc? Of course, then a savings account won’t be worth anything to you either. If you want to spend the money, I suggest weapons, alcohol and other bartering items. My 2 cents.

    • excellent questions, reliant 1, any one got any ideas of what to do then ?

      • Wellll, in my opinion, gold is way too expensive. $1300.oo plus per ounce. Who’s going to make change? do you really want to exchange one $1300. stamp of gold for the item(s) you want. My idea is if you want to invest my choice is silver, less expensive easier/ cheaper to obtain, and if change isn’t an option you aren’t losing as much. ALSO it’s never a bad idea to have something you have experience with to have on hand as barter items. amunition, tools, cooking or sewing supplies, first aid supplies, or food.

    • That’s why you buy unregistered (there’s that register word again – see Blacks Law dictionary) gold in-hand and hide it. Border Gold is an example, and there are others. Not to mention a jeweler. Other things for barter are just common sense, but thanks for pointing that out in case anyone misses/ed that…

      Aloha no, gotta go…

      • I hope you don’t mind me jumping in and adding to your barter list. After Katrina, my wife and I went over three weeks with no support available, outside of our small neighborhood of houses. We were totally isolated from any services including power and water. I tend to be a packrat by nature. So, having “stuff” on hand was not really a challenge. I did notice that most of my neighbors did not share my affinity for “good junk” . Their preparedness levels ranged from minimal to horrible. Here are some of the basics I would add to a home kit.
        1. A small solar panel, 10 watt minimum. (10w will charge a 12 volt car battery in 1 sunny day)
        2. Car accessories ( 12v fan, light, plug in radio, ect.) Being able to sleep comfortably at night makes a world of difference.
        3. Stock water – Prior to the storm we filled every container that would hold water. In addition, prior to each hurricane season we hold back 8-10 water jugs from the water delivery service.
        4. Dry goods – Beans, rice, beer, and cigaretts. Gold is great but, you can’t eat gold. And yes, beer and cigaretts are on my list even though I don’t smoke and can count on one hand the average number of beers I will have over the course of a year. You will run into a lot of people who do not and will never think past right now! And many times, at their right now moment, all they can think of is beer and cigaretts. A trade is a trade, and your objective is to take care of your family.

Since Katrina, and with the undertones of pending future economic/social doom, I see a lot of people buying a van or truck to outfit it as a “bug-out” vehicle. The reality is, many people cannot afford this. Don’t overlook outfitting a small enclosed utility trailer. They can be towed by almost any vehicle, can be used for other purposes, and are a lot mor affordable.

    • Rosevelt was a different time. They needed to collect the gold from people to devalue the dollar at the time since we were on the gold standard. We aren’t today.

Concerning the need to move; I remember a story about some Amish or Mennonites in an eastern Canadian province who were notified that they would be “allowed” to home school their children as long as they used state approved curriculum. The problem was the curriculum included sex education that the people considered obscene and counter to their faith. The state wouldn’t back down so the people counseled together and sold their farms and moved as a COMMUNITY to another province where they were free to home school. My point is the reformed who wish to be governed by God need to form Christian communities now so we can still function in a crisis. When I mean community, I’m not talking about a hippie style commune. I mean the Christian view of community is a body politic consisting of family, church and civil governments with all these spheres under the Lordship and authority of Christ and His Law. The city of man will ultimately fail so the People and city of God should have a long term vision of culture building so that we can not only have a sustainable community but something to offer our children for their future. I would love to network with any other Christians who find this idea not only appealing but Biblical as well. Should we have to relocate to a place like Belize, it would be very helpful to have a network of people you already have built trust and community with. It would be great to have your doctor, car mechanic, machinist, pastor, farmer and candle stick maker move with you.

    Keep up the good work
    Larry in Montrose, CO

Found the article about the Mennonites. I need to make a correction. They were going to be forced to educate their children in evolution not sex education. Here is the article:

  7. Where do I find “Financial Dominoes Yet to Fall” by Hank Brock?
    L. B

    • Hank’s book is still being printed, but members of will be given a special pre-release offer once it is ready.

  8. Question / discusion – When a nuclear device goes off help me here EMS or something burns out a component that kills your car. With that said what can we do or buy as a backup / replacement ? If there is no electricity and I need gas, what do I have to do ? Bring my generator,a pump that can pump the gas,and a gun to protect myself why this is all happening ?

    • Hi Steve,
If an EMP ( Electro Magnetic Pulse) is near enough, it can fry the computer circuitry in all your appliances,
Vehicles, city power substations ( the real threat) and virtually any other unhardened facility. Transportation may be of minimal cosequence if that were to happen as the fuel stations would no longer work either. You can get an older ( pre 1970’s vehicle with no computer chip circuitry)

    • Part 2,

Also store an extra starter and celenoid in a home made faraday cage( metal box, old microwave oven etc) along with any radio or communication equipment and enough extra fuel to get where you want to go. I’ll add that if the US loses the grid due to EMP, the Sub station transformers, which are made over seas and take 19 months to get, would virtually assurre the permanent loss of civilization as we know it. Learn to live off the grid as our pioneering grandparents did and you might save your family.
      Good Luck,

  9. I keep wondering, and looking at my list, to see if I’m missing something that I will need when it does crash ? My Father once told me, that the depression he lived through, was that No one had any money and to buy anythig ? He said the depression that you will go through, people will have alot of money, but it won’t buy anything, because there will be no product to buy ??

  10. Many questions indeed. We have to learn from those who lived years ago. What lessons did they learn from? I hear much in the wake of things about Gold, guns, and barter items. Could it be that we are missing something in all of this? Do we really know exactly how things will go down? There are many theories and some things which are based on emotions. Are we a people of God or of society? If you are a blood bought born again child of the living God then you don’t have to fear what is out there. Learn the lessons of the Bible. Read the book of Deuteronomy. God promised blessings and curses to his people. We do not have to fear what may be coming to this generation. The world around us has gone through stages of difficulty and danger. No one may know the time of His coming. People thought Hitler, Stalin, and etc. were the anti-Christ. How many of us have learned how to live off the land? We have frankly become way too civilized in our life styles and thinking. The main thing is to be sure of your relationship with Jesus Christ if you know Him as Savior and Lord. If anything happens then you have assurance of your salvation and will go to be with Him. We as believers need to lead other believers to get on our knees and ask Almighty God for forgiveness for the sins in our lives and the sins of our once great nation, America. America was once a beacon of light for all the world. It got hope to the rest of the world when dictators took to destroying people. We once led the way to God. We once showed the rest of the world that we were a nation under God. The true church needs to become the church of Almighty God. “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face then I will hear from heaven and heal their land.” The first thing we need to do is Repent! Prepare yourselves as well with the basics as you would any disaster. Food, shelter, clothing, protection. Help each other in disaster. Don’t discount anyone or anything. Be careful that in all your preparation that you become only concerned about yourself. People tend to panic. Remember the Y2K scare? People were buying generators, gold, freeze dried food. Then the year 2000 arrived and nothing happened. Yes you were prepared but then you allowed yourself to slip back into the everyday. Our nation forgets very easy when things are well. Prevention is the key, Preparation the chain. Be prepared everyday as if it were your last. Eternity is forever. God is still on the throne. Do not think he is unaware of what is happening. Prepare yourselves in every way you know how to. Remember Joseph in the Old testament. He prepared for the seven years of plenty and lack. His faith was in God. Yours needs to be too.

  11. Hi,

I am an American citizen living in the U.K. I married a serviceman and moved here to his country after our marriage when I was 24– that was 42 years ago. Here we have the National Healthcare System–which has looked after my family and I here now all these years. Yes, I do hear of problems elsewhere in various parts of the nation, but for us it has been good. All our dental care, physical and mental healthcare has been looked after. Yes, I do use herbal remedies but out of choice. A lot of people are moving to organic gardening like us, too. But overall we can’t complain about the NHS as far as we are concerned and yet when I reached 65, I decided to also have some additional private healthcare insurance, which is very reasonable. It is not required by law thought, again it is out of choice.

Every situation is different, but I do wonder if you folks have more fear than faith, and are not adequately informed about the good side of National Healthcare like is in Canada and the U.K. and other nations in Europe.

    Yours, Nancy

    • Well, Nancy, as a nurse here in the U.S., all I can say is congratulations. Yours seems to have been a very healthy family, indeed. Please answer the following question, if you believe the Canadian healthcare system is that good: Why do Canadians come to the U.S. to receive diagnostic tests (such as CT, MRI, etc.) and definitive treatment (sophisticated neurologic surgical procedures, cardiovascular procedures, joint replacement surgeries, etc.) if the Canadian system is as good as it is cheap? And let’s talk about the costs for a moment. Sure, the patient pays very little for an office visit, assuming they have been assigned to a physician and assuming they can obtain an appointment in a somewhat timely fashion. But look at the tax rates in Canada and the U.K. Free health care certainly is not free!
Again, my congratulations on having such a healthy family. I truly hope that continues. However, when/if that changes, where will you go to obtain the superb healthcare that was once available here in the U.S.? Roughly half of all family practice and “general practice” internal medicine docs are at least considering giving up the practice of medicine. Less than half the previous rate (about 40%) of medical students are now considering a “general” or family practice. The rates of application to medical school are dropping, so those leaving will be very difficult to replace. There is a thought that family practice nurse practitioners will take up the slack. I am a FNP and I cannot see a circumstance in which I could replace a family practice doc. Sure, I can provide general services to a basically stable and healthy group of patients. But who will be there for me to refer truly sick patients to? They will have to go to specialists. And most, if not all, socialist healthcare systems make that very difficult. The reality is that it is cheaper for the system for the really sick patient to die before seeing the specialist and receiving expensive specialty treatment and/or prolonged hospital care.
That is why so many Canadians, those who could afford the trip and extended stays in the U.S., would come here rather than wait extended periods in Canada. That is also one of the reasons Canada is moving toward a privitazation of healthcare.
Sorry for the verbosity of this response.

    • Hi Nancy, great that you have had such good experience–and I suspect good genes. I lived in Israel for a time with a registered nurse from the U.K. as a roommate. She was there in the employ of the Israeli army. Being from the US I asked her to tell me what she thought about your health program there. Here’s what she said, “It is legalized euthanasia.” I was a little surprised though I had heard from Canadian citizens aso that they had to come down to the U.S. and pay for their own medical when Canada just put them on a waiting list and never gets to them. My roommate in Israel had had an accident that damaged her shoulder. She was on the “list” but nothing was being done for her for several years. She was slowly losing the use of her arm. When she returned to Israel for another work contract, the doctor she worked with asked her abut it. He told her she was likely to lose the use of her arm if she didn’t get it fixed. She told him she couldn’t. She had complained and plead but nothing was being done for her. He said, “We have an agreement with the U.K. that if there is an emergency here and we give you care, they pay us. I will claim it an emergency and we will get it fixed for you.” He did, and they did. But this was the opinion of your medical care from inside the inner sanctum–from one who saw many cases where people were allowed to die rather than given care. Like I said, you can be thankful to God for good genes that did not put you in that position, according to this nursing professional. I honestly think that sometimes only those on the inside realize that socialism just doesn’t work. For the first people on it, it can be good, but eventually they can’t keep up the program.

    • Hi Nancy, Here’s another reason so many of us in the US want to roll back the so-called socialist “healthcare” Obama and his fellow communists crammed down our throats:

Need something to get your blood boiling???? Has anyone heard of this new word? Dhimmitude?

Amish and other religious groups may be exempt from forced purchase of healthcare policies under Obama care. You know what other groups this could include ???Muslims and Christian Scientists may be exempt from having to have government healthcare.

I had my doubts so I checked with Snopes. There is an exemption for “certain religious groups” in the Health Care Bill. Obama supporters check it out yourself.

Had never heard the word until now—Type it into Google and start reading Pretty interesting. Note that Muslims and certain other religions are exempt from the Obamacare penalties and it is supported by law. We are surrendering from within! The prez is leading us right down the path to total Muslim control and you don’t care! Maybe you voted for him but now the truth comes out. Maybe you should rethink what you have done.

Dhimmitude is the Muslim system of controlling non-muslim populations conquered through jihad. Specifically, it is the TAXING of non-muslims in exchange for tolerating their presence AND as a coercive means of converting conquered remnants to islam.

The ObamaCare bill is the establishment of Dhimmitude and Sharia muslim diktat in the United States . Muslims may be specifically exempted from the government mandate to purchase insurance, and also from the penalty tax for being uninsured. Islam considers insurance to be “gambling”, “risk-taking” and “usury” and is thus banned. Muslims may be specifically granted exemption based on this. How convenient. So I John Smith, as a Christian, will have crippling IRS liens placed against all of my assets, including real estate, cattle, cars and etc. and even accounts receivables, and will face hard prison time because I refuse to buy insurance or pay the penalty tax. Meanwhile, Louis Farrakhan will have no such penalty and will have 100% of his health needs paid for by the de facto government insurance at our expence. Non-muslims will be paying a tax to subsidize muslims. Period. This is Dhimmitude.

Dhimmitude serves two purposes: it enriches the muslim masters AND serves to drive conversions to islam. In this case, the incentive to convert to islam will be taken up by those in the inner-cities as well as the godless Generation X, Y and Z types who have no moral anchor or belief in God! If you don’t believe in Christ to begin with, it is no problem whatsoever to sell Him for 30 pieces of silver. “Sure, I’ll be a muslim if it means free health insurance and no taxes. Where do I sign, brother?” Now all you Obama voters get in line for your free stuff!…However, I suggest you don’t hold your breath!…

I recommend sending this email to all your contacts. This is desperately important and people need to know about it and what the past election has done to all of us!

PS Have you heard about the summit Obama is holding this month in DC for the future Muslim business leaders in the US? He wants to increase their ability to begin business opportunities in the US for the Muslim community! Better start looking for a country that doesn’t cater to the Muslims ~ Austrailia doesn’t because this country will be overrun by Muslims like Europe is currently experiencing.

  12. I have been wondering about the effects of EMS for years and I have a question concerning the matter. If your car battery or power supply is disconnected, would it still fry the chips? Also, is there something you could put around it to repel it like foil, radiant barrier or the type of material our military wears in the field? Also, do you think the Kodex law on Colloidal silver and the possible ban of silver is for the population to stay sick or could colloidal Silver skew your biometric scan on a database? Just wondering what the real beef is? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

  13. Dear reliant1,

Regarding gold. Check out Don at Also, gold saved many jews from Hitler when they were able to bribe thier way out of Germany in the early part of wwII. Gold has never gone bust. However, you cannot eat it. Check out the Ingalls family situation in the childrens book THE LONG WINTER in the Little House On the Prarie series. I might be mistaken but I think it was the first time Pa Ingalls never put food away for the winter , it almost cost him his family. His stated idea as this, he had plenty of gold from working on the railroad and they were just going to buy weekly as the train came in . It never did.

  14. I would like to know about the EMS problem we could have in the future, and what to do about it?
