“Remember, if Christmas isn’t found in your heart you won’t find it under a tree.”
–Charlotte Carpenter
This is probably my most favorite time of year. I absolutely adore everything about the early Christmas season. As an adult, I find myself giddy with anticipation as I unwrap each and every ornament in the box which always amuses me. It is not like any of the decorations are a surprise. In fact, many of these have been in our family for generations. But still I sit like a kid on Christmas morning and enjoy every minute of it. Trimming the tree, seeing the lights, simply smelling the aromas bring a smile to my face. I make it a point to decorate our house as soon after Thanksgiving as I can so I can have the entire month to enjoy everything.
The Christmas season has become tough for many people. It is hard to enjoy the anticipation of Christmas when you are worrying about the ‘things’ you have yet to accomplish. But the anticipation of this special event is what makes the holiday season so wonderful. Christmas is one day, certainly one of the most important because it is the day we celebrate our savior’s birth. However, we cannot get so lost in getting ready for that one day that we forget to take the time to enjoy the entire season. The buildup can be just as special, just as memorable, and just as remarkable if we only take the time to slow down and enjoy it.
