Elon Musk now believes artificial intelligence (AI) and killer robots will initiate world war III are a direct threat to humanity’s future.
Ominously, Musk and many top computer scientists signed a pledge not to develop “lethal autonomous weapons” on July 18. The pledge signed at the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence warns that killer robots are a reality.
“There is also a powerful and very pragmatic argument: lethal autonomous weapons, selecting and engaging targets without human intervention, would be dangerously destabilizing for every country and individual,” the pledge states. In other words, experts in AI are afraid of killer robots.
Musk Warns of Immortal AI Dictator
Disturbingly, Musk believes artificial intelligence is a threat to humanity.
“The least scary future I can think of is one where we have at least democratized AI because if one company or small group of people manages to develop godlike digital superintelligence, they could take over the world,” Musk said. The Tesla founder reportedly made that statement in a documentary called Do You Trust This Computer?
“At least when there’s an evil dictator, that human is going to die,” >Musk warned. “But for an AI, there would be no death. It would live forever. And then you’d have an immortal dictator from which we can never escape.”

Musk Thinks AI Will Exterminate The Human Race
“We’re rapidly heading towards digital intelligence that far exceeds any human it’s very obvious,” Musk said in the trailer for the documentary. Accordingly, Musk believes AI is a threat to humanity.
“If AI has a goal and humanity just happens to be in the way… AI will destroy humanity as a matter of course without even thinking about it. No hard feelings,” Musk said. As a result, AI might think of humanity as a pest to be exterminated.
“It’s just like … if we’re building a road and an anthill just happens to be in the way. We don’t hate ants. We’re just building a road, and so, goodbye anthill,” the billionaire technologist added.
Musk Thinks AI Will Start World War III
Musk even believes that AI will start World War III under similar circumstances.
“China, Russia, soon all countries with strong computer science will have this advanced technology. Competition for AI superiority at the national level most likely be the cause of WW3,” Musk tweeted.
“Maybe initiated not by the country leaders, but one of the surrogate AI’s, if it decides that a preemptive strike is the most probable path to victory,” Musk wrote of World War III. All this leads the billionaire to believe AI would launch nuclear weapons without human permission.
Putin Believes AI Will Rule The World
“Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said of AI. In the final analysis, Putin believes artificial intelligence is critical to military success.
Consequently, Putin believes the next war will be fought by drones, weaponized robots and AI. “When one party’s drones are destroyed by drones of another, it will have no other choice but to surrender,” Putin said. Significantly a drone is an “autonomous” weapon. Russia is a reportedly a leader in the development of autonomous weapons technology.
Putin’s statements reveal that Musk’s fears are grounded in reality. The truth is, World War III very well may be started by artificial intelligence and not human beings.
