The Houston Public Library’s Drag Queen Story Time featured a registered child sex offender as one of its storytellers. In fact, the storyteller Alberto Garza has a conviction for assaulting an eight-year-old boy.

Garza, or Tatian Mala Nina, read to children at the library during a Drag Queen Story Time session, KHOU 11 claims. To explain, the Drag Queens are female impersonators who read to the children.

Moreover, Garza’s name appears on the Texas Sex Offender Registry, The American Conservative’s Rod Dreher reports. Plus, the Registry describes Garza as having a “moderate risk to re-offend.”

Oddly, Drag Queen Story Time is an effort to promote love and acceptance in children. However, opponents claim it is an attempt to teach children “secular humanism.”

200 Pound Sex Offender At Library Story Time

Tracy Shannon describes Garza as a 200-pound sex offender. Shannon is a member of Mass Resistance.

Notably, Mass Resistance is a group of Houston Residents who are trying to end Drag Queen story telling. For instance, Mass Resistance discovered Garza’s record by conducting a background check.

The background check revealed that Garza has a 2008 conviction for assaulting an eight-year-old boy. Consequently, the Houston Public Library is barring Garza from future Drag Queen Story Time events.

However, Drag Queen Story hours will continue at the Houston Public Library. Strangely, Houston Public Library officials admit they do not conduct background checks on the Drag Queen storytellers.

Judge Allows Drag Queen Story Time At Public Library

In October 2018, Mass Resistance tried to stop the Drag queen stories with a lawsuit.

Specifically, Mass Resistance claims that Drag Queen Story Time violates the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause by promoting secular humanism. To explain, Mass Resistance is claiming that holding the event at a public library violates the separation of church and state.

“It’s really about indoctrinating children to the ideals of secular humanism,” Chris Sevier says of the story time. Sevier is also a member of mass resistance.

However, a federal judge disagreed with Mass Resistance by dismissing the lawsuit in January. In addition, the lawsuit names Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner as a plaintiff.

The Heights Neighborhood Library has been holding Drag Queen Story reading since July 2018, KHOU TV reports. Additionally, the Drag Queen stories are part of a national program held at libraries all over America.
