Watch: Left-Wing Americans Sign Petition Banning Religion And Politics In Public

mark dice petitionBeachgoers in Oceanside, California, recently were eager to sign a petition banning the discussion of religion and politics in public.

Seemingly average Americans approached by media analyst and prankster Mark Dice were willing to sign petitions banning people from talking about religions and politics at the beach. Only one woman in the video refused to sign the petition.

Dice, pretending he was fully in support of the petition, told one couple who signed it, “We’re just trying to mute people’s political and religious speech – [but] just when they’re in public. There is a time and a place to talk about religion and politics and it’s not in public. It’s what your living room is for.”

Dice told another couple, referencing people who discuss religion and politics in public, “What do these people think they have right to do this? … You know the First Amendment wasn’t designed to have people talking about politics or religion out in public.”

The man agreed, saying discussions about religion and politics always “lead to a confrontation.” The woman also signed it, saying she didn’t want people forcing their beliefs on her.

“There’s a time and a place for freedom of speech and it’s not in public,” Dice told another man. The man seemed to agree with the statement.

Here is what the First Amendment says:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Obviously, some residents of Oceanside, a beach community in North San Diego County, disagree with the Founding Fathers’ idea of freedom of speech.

The video shows Americans of all ages and races signing the petition.

“I hope it works,” one man said.

“The beach is a place for fun and sun. We don’t need people out here talking about politics and religion,” Dice said.

At one point Dice even claimed to be collecting signatures on behalf of Oceanside’s city council.

The worst result of Dice’s experiment was that no one mentioned the First Amendment or the Constitution. Most of those he approached did not seem to know that the Constitution guaranteed freedom of speech and that Dice’s petition was blatantly unconstitutional.

This is only the latest disturbing petition Dice has gotten average Americans to sign. His other videos include people signing petitions supposedly to support President Obama’s “plan to launch nuclear strike into North Korea” (there is no such plan) and to ban the Bible from Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.

It looks as if some Americans would sign any petition — including one that would strip them of their most basic freedoms.
